Solara Species in Mirateia | World Anvil

Solara

Several hundred years ago there was an outbreak of a plague in the region, many people fell ill and those that survived were weak and only in the rarest cases recovered fully. This was during the times of the Ancient Empire were the common people didn't have access to mages and healers as any with the slightest magical potential was transported to the cities were the Empires elite lived.   Normally the plagues came during the rainy season and left again when the dry season started but this year the plague stayed for the entire year and the population were severely weakened it was only by a miracle that someone noticed that those who collected the flowers for the graves were not affected by the sickness if they had collected a certain flower that by the locals were known as Solara, a flower that lived up to its name, its colours were that of the sun and its flowers were wide open during the day and some even thought that it followed the sun as it made its way over the sky.   After some experimentation with people who had made wreaths out of the Solara flower and exposed themself to the sick, the people found out that the flower somehow protected them against the plague so a lot of the wildflowers that could be found were harvested and their seeds extracted and over the next year the flowers were cultivated and some were made into wreaths and the rest were harvested for the seeds and slowly but steadily the region recovered from the sickness and to this day, the flower plays a vital role in the culture of the region and is a common gift to give to a person if they feel a bit ill or as a symbol that the giver wishes the other person to have good health.   When the Ancient Empire fell and magic slowly began to return to the common people, it was discovered that the flower contains some healing magical properties and that they can be made into a potion but that like the people found out also works if just held close the the skin.

Ooo, what an awesome flower. I love that it works even just through exposure.
