Creen´s plague
The Creen´s plague was an epidemic that afflicted the entire southern part of the Mirateian continent, hitting the Empire of Dercia and Sahrazari Empire especially hard. The name of the plague goes under countless names, but for the Dercian Empire, the plague was named after the harbour city of Creen, the most eastern harbour of the Dercian Empire, from where the plague spread along the traderoutes, hitting the capital city Pearlhal hard, killing around 10% of the city's population.
It's believed that Creen´s plague arrived in the city on board some of the merchant ships that arrived in the city daily. It's believed that the plague was present either among the crews, with a sailor being sick, maybe without knowing it, and then going onshore and unknowingly spreading the sickness, but some also believe that it was the cargo that carried the plague, that it was onboard the cargo holds full of fur that was imported into the city.
A local scholar known as Marius Vespi, was present in the city when the plague broke out and its according to his estimates that the arrival of Creen´s plague killed nearly half the cities population although the numbers have been called into question, its generally accepted that most died of getting the plague, but that a large number also died as a result of the following effect of the plague, as sick bakers couldnt bake bread, meaning that lots of people already on the brink of starvation, got even sicker.
It's estimated that the death toll was lower than previous plagues due to the populations that had survived the previous plagues, which had developed a resistance to the plagues. That said, it still hit hard and caused a short crisis in the southern part of the continent as traderoutes was disrupted and cities had to repopulate, but within the decade, the effects had mostly vanished.
