Aetherius Character in Mirateia | World Anvil

Aetherius

God of the Stars and Skies

Aetherius, the God of the Stars and Skies is revered by travellers, explorers and seekers, they believe that he embodies fate, destiny and the unknown. The god Aetherius has been around forever but the domains he manages are only recently attached to him, he started out being the deity of falling stars but slowly overtime he absorbed the domains of other gods as they faded or for some other reason were no longer worshipped by the mortals.   Aetherius spends his time among the celestial bodies where his job is to watch over the paths of stars and the courses of comets like The Emerald Comet, its also his job to maintain the constellations that some believe map out the destines of mortals, he is the one that creates new constellations.    Due to his connections with the cosmos and the unknown, his guidance is highly sought after by people embarking on journeys or just trying to interpret the signs that have been revealed to them.   In statues, he is typically portrayed as an entity draped in celestial robes with a halo of stars behind him and with a staff in one hand, all of his statues are generally made to look upward towards the skies.   Due to the connection with the cosmos, Temples dedicated to Aetherius are often constructed with observatories that allow the followers of Aetherius to connect with the cosmic realm and read the stars. Unlike the other temples for the other deities, the big temples dedicated to Aetherius are almost always located a fair distance from the urban centers with the followers only maintaining a small temple in the city to have a presence there.   Those who follow Aetherius seek to align their fate with the guidance they have received from the stars and skies in the hopes that clarity and direction will come to them and help them in their pursuits in life.   Aetherius generally keeps to himself and maintains a considerable distance from the mortals, mostly staying in his domains, his primary interaction with the mortal world through signs, and avatars.

It makes sense that he keeps his distance from mortals if he has domain over their fate. It would be awkward if he got attached.
