A t E: Prologue Session 01 - To Excel...

Written by vynegael

General Summary

Certain high and special days, destined to emerge from the passing of all the many days, are filled with wild weather. Storms and rain announce the passing of an age and the angry entrance of a new one. Immense portents are heralded by thunderous crashes and weather most severe. This occasion was not like this. The day dawned serene. Calm and cool. A nearby lake was undisturbed and reflected accurately the orange sky turning slowly blue above Excel.   Within the town, people went about their planned work for the day's start, be that hauling water from the well, setting up the market stalls, bucketing off the doorstep of the Mangy Manticore Inn or painting the window sills of Mother's Boarding House. All was as it should be.           Except this town had not been on Tighan one moment before the sunrise. These people were unaware of their change in circumstance. When they learned what had happened, they would be equal parts amazed, scared and uncertain. No longer a small town on the edge of the empire of the Imperial Overlord. No longer some days' travel from the powerful trading city of Termaenol. No longer on the land of Nicversentel. No longer under the watchful and all-seeing eye of Horus-Ra, its patron and protector.           Outside of the town, the countryside had begun to resume its regular habits. The momentary disturbance that was caused by the town's appearance faded. For all the world, it looked much as though the place had always had a town there. . . High atop a tall, ablonas tree, light flashed from the Outeranger's spyglass lens. He turned it from point to point, examining the town, noting various key defences, the few town guardsmen, the people going about their tasks. The walls were impressive for such a small town. He needed to make a full report to his superiors about this supernatural occurrence. He had almost concluded his spying when he noted the approach of an aerial machine. Dirigible., he thought. Strange, Kedge-related vessels. He didn't trust anything that floated and wasn't in water. He looked at it through his glass. Maybe this was a new type? He couldn't see a large skin filled with heated air vapour. . .
