Lutonfolk
Naming Traditions
Feminine names
Over time, due to the stronger gender lines of the Lutonfolk’s culture, some names have developed feminine traits. Generally speaking, these names are similar to 2140s names, but with more emphasised vowels. Examples include Laisa, Caloe, Wainne, Susan, and Poilli.
Masculine names
Other names have gained masculine connotations. These names make heavy use of consonants, with rare use of vowels beyond ‘e’ and ‘o’. Examples of this include Dego, Karles, Hector, Pedlos, and Semuel.
Unisex names
Most Lutonfolk names are derived from the entirely unisex set of names common in the era when they were cut off from the outside. As such, some names retain their unisex status. Examples of this include Elza, Alyx, Sidney, Jack, Jamey, and Ellot.
Family names
Lutonfolk surnames are, on the whole, slightly modified versions of British surnames that were popular in the 2140s and 50s. Examples include Smith, Rickards, Seins, Oxford, Craws, and Whyatt. There are only a few other surnames, because the community is very insular.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Lutonfolk primarily speak a language that is about as similar to modern English as chimpanzees are to humans - they share an evolutionary root in middle cyber-era English, but they developed wildly differently beyond that point. However, because of this shared root, the language barrier isn’t too hard to bridge.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Burn scars are seen as a sign of both inner and outer beauty in Lutonite culture, because they show that someone faced the flames and persisted, and therefore embody the very spirit of the culture. As such, many get tattoos of burn scars, if they don’t have one of their own.
Gender Ideals
Unlike most modern cultures, Lutonfolk still hold somewhat of an ideal for most of the major gender identities, somewhat modelled after the gender ideals of the 1950s in Britain and the USA - most likely because of the fact that most of their surviving media is historical content from that era.
