Wither Storm

The Wither Storm is one of two hidden abomination bosses within the files of the server of Minecraftia, the other being the Ender Fury. It was first developed by Notch, who had been inspired by the Wither Storm's appearance within the Telltale-made Minecraft spinoff game Minecraft: Story Mode. Eventually he decided that it was too complicated to build and gave up working on it early during development, however the files for the creature would be discovered by the US government after they had seized the server of Minecraftia from Notch, after the invasion of Stockholm. The highly skilled programmers who were given care and tasked to monitor the server would take it upon themselves to complete the Wither Storm's development and leave it in the hidden files of the game, where it would only be able to spawn if very specific circumstances were met inside the server.

Basic Information

Anatomy

While the anatomy of the Wither Storm undergoes significant changes throughout its many phases, it consistently will grow three heads-each with one purple eye, per torso. The black body has several functional tentacles and grows more as it progresses.

Genetics and Reproduction

Wither Storms do not reproduce by their own actions, but can by the actions of others. Using a Formidi-bomb to blast a Wither Storm apart is enough to allow each segment to operate even without a direct bodily connection to the Command Block. They are, however, still part of the original Wither Storm as they still operate as long as they are within its vicinity, until the Wither Storms locate Command Blocks and are able to consume them, which will allow Wither Storm segments to become their own separate Wither Storms and be able to depart from the original.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Wither Storm starts out as an ordinary Wither with a Command Block in its ribcage. Over time, its body will grow in size as it absorbs more blocks and condenses them into a very stiff biomass. It usually takes a few hours(one full minute in physical-world time) for it to reach its second phase.   At Phase 2, the original Wither's central head undergoes significant changes, losing both its eyes as a new one is formed in between. Its mouth grows in size as new teeth form. While this happens, its jaw breaks, and during this phase the Wither Storm is unable to open or close its mouth until it regrows in the following phase. It is during this phase that a tractor beam powered by the Command Block is created and comes out from its newly-formed eye. The time between its second and third phase is usually several hours to half a day(three and eight minutes).   At Phase 3, as its body increases in mass, tendrils will begin to take shape. They are at this point stiff and incapable of being used, only able to sway. The blocks used to construct them at this point have not yet been altered from their base programming. It usually takes between one and five days(fifteen to seventy-five minutes) for it to reach its fourth phase.   At Phase 4, the Wither Storm undergoes a significant change in its anatomy, as it grows over a dozen times its previous size in a matter of seconds. The two Wither heads undergo a similar, although significantly sped up, change as the first from Phase 2. Having been exposed to the Command Block for a significant period of time, most of the blocks that make up its body change to a more fleshy texture. At this point, its tendrils are now fully usable and capable of grabbing targets or being used for calculated attacks. The pulling of blocks towards the Command Block in this phase has strengthened to the point that the Wither Storm now pulls entire chunks of blocks from the surface. This pulling is strong enough for the Wither Storm to be surrounded by thousands of blocks pulled individually from the surface, resulting in a permanent cloud of debris circling the storm. This phase is when the Wither Storm is able to produce Wither mist to spread its plague. As it grows in size, its tentacles will steadily drift to the underside of the creature while the blocks it consumes pile on its back. It will usually take around a month(or seven to eight hours) for the Wither Storm to move onto its fifth phase.   At Phase 5, the Wither Storm has gained a significant amount of mass, causing its ability to fly to be severely affected. All of its tendrils by now have shifted to dangle beneath the creature, and it will begin to rely on them to be able to continue moving. The area of exposure to its Wither plague will increase to five times its original radius. The Wither Storm can be seen from fifteen thousand blocks away-five thousand more than its original distance. It will take around a year(ninety-one hours) for it to reach its next phase.   At Phase 6, the Wither Storm is no longer capable of flying due to its immense body weight, as its mass surpasses the block height limit(320 layers). Its tentacles have grown longer than its own body's height, and it struggles move around at this point, opting to stay in the same area. From here, the effects of its Wither plague can be felt as far as two thousand blocks away. The Wither Storm can be seen from as far as twenty thousand blocks away. It takes around four years(fifteen days) to advance to its seventh phase.   At Phase 7, even the slightest movement of its great body exhausts the Wither Storm, as it drills its many tentacles into the surface and plants itself to the ground. The range of its vision increases significantly and it is able to see and process entities from up to seven thousand blocks away. The effects of the Wither plague can be felt from twelve-thousand blocks away. The Wither Storm can be seen from as far as thirty thousand blocks away-three times as far as its original processable distance. After a significant time passes(generally twenty-one years, which is roughly eighty days in physical-world time), the weight of the Wither Storm becomes so heavy that it sinks to the bottom layers of the world. Having cleared all the land within a massive range around it, the Wither Storm collapses on its own weight and falls over. Its body mass, having reached heights surpassing two thousand blocks, instantly flattens anything it lands on. From here, the Wither Storm will continue to lay on the bottom layers of the world, incapable of any movement, until the inevitable expiration of the Command Block, bringing a slow and agonizing end to the creature.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Wither Storm is capable of consuming any kind of creature and any kind of block, with the exception of bedrock.

Behaviour

Wither Storms will intentionally seek out the closest and largest gathering of mobs, be they human or non-human. Much like the Withers they once were, they have the desire to wipe out all life, although this desire has now been enhanced to include undead mobs and even the world itself.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The few times Wither Storms have been created were with the purpose of bringing death and destruction on a global scale.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Wither Storms react primarily through vision. They do have an internal sense mechanic that allows them to track anything in particular that the Wither Storm is interested in.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

The Wither Storm acts as a direct parasite of the Overworld itself, or any other worlds it is created within.
This is a remix of the Wither Storm's musical theme. I ended up listening to it the entire time while writing this article. Give it a listen while reading it if you'd like to!

The reasoning for the programmers who completed Notch's work on developing the Wither Storm has never been revealed, although it is possible that to the US government the Wither Storm may have been an experiment to see the destructive capability of such a monster while using the virtual world as testing grounds.

"And this isn't even my final form!" says the Wither Storm transformed into its third phase.   Going up against something like the Wither is a pain in the butt under normal circumstances, but the Wither Storm has taken on the persona of an anime-style boss like Kefka from FF6. Kefka had five phases. I played through FF6 in the summer of 1999 (it took me all summer), but when I got to the end, I thought I was ready. No. Not even. After the third phase, typical for most video game bosses of that gameplay style, I thought I had defeated the jerk. No, I had two more to go.

Lol, it always catches me off guard when bosses break the rule of three, especially when they go past three.
