Space Dragon Species in Milky Way | World Anvil

Space Dragon

The term Space Dragon refers to a group of similar void-dwelling species that resemble the dragons of various worlds' mythologies. They are of great size, typically over a kilometre long, and possess firepower to rival even titan-class warships.

The largest of these space dragons is a dragon called the ether drake, of which only one exists. According to research conducted by the Curator Order over thousands of years, the ether drake is ill-suited to life in the universe, but still immensely powerful. There were once many more of its kind, but between hunting and simply wasting away, it is the only survivor. It predates all known galactic civilisations - including the ancient Zroni - and is theorised to predate even the universe itself, having survived a Big Crunch and subsequent Big Bang. Based on accounts by survivors that have engaged the ether drake, it is capable of projecting a titanic beam of energy that effortlessly cuts through hull plating and armour from its mouth, as well as smaller beams from its wings, and short-range lightning that seems to act as a sort of point-defence.

Additionally, smaller space dragons have been noted to appear in archaeological records, as well as the records of the Curator Order. Although not as powerful as the ether drake, they are still forces to be reckoned with. According to information gleaned from various archaeological sites and Racket Industrial Enterprises, a space dragon named Shard once forced the Racket to abandon one of their planets several centuries ago, due to their posession of a relic called the Rubricator. Several archaeological expeditions have been attempted to locate this relic, but they are still in progress.
