Ladnah
Ladnah is a habitable alpine world, notable for being the homeworld of Glebsigi and the capital of the Glebsig Foundation. The planet is the second satellite of the Ladnah Vyg System, and has one orbiting moon of its own. Ladnah's eccentric orbit has created a stable cycle of ice ages and glacial retreats. The constant growth and recession of glaciers has carved out extensive canyons between snow-capped highlands. In the warmer equatorial regions, liquid water lakes and forests create ideal, if decidedly cold, conditions for life to develop.
Ladnah's climatic cycle takes place over approximately two million years. At the peak of the glacial period, virtually the entire surface outside of the tropics (approximately 25 degrees north and south) is covered with snow, glaciers, and frozen seas. As Ladnah's average orbit moves closer to its sun, the planet warms and the glaciers retreat, expanding the readily habitable zone to approximately 50 degrees north and south at the peak of the warm period. The planet is currently in the midst of a warm period, though carbon emissions caused by Glebsigan industrialisation may impact the climatic cycle in the long term.
The warm air in the equator clashes with the cold air from the poles , creating violent storms at the planet's glacial border regions. For most of Glebsigan history, these storms effectively created a barrier to polar exploration, but advances in technology in the civilisation's Machine Age allowed tracked vehicles to punch through the barrier and explore the polar regions. However, these intense and constant storms remain hazardous, and permanent settlements are only built well clear of them on one side or the other.
Non-temperate cities on Ladnah are typically constructed in glacial valleys, sheltered from the biting polar winds. In more temperate regions, cities are built in the open, typically close to lakes and seas for their water supply. Most farms are located in the temperate regions, as the more stable hydrological cycle and warmer temperatures allow crops to grow easier. Most of Ladnah's economy revolves around services, particularly the expansive religious-bureacratic apparatus that allows the Glebsig Foundation to function with efficiency.
