Tyrth

Warriors are not born from eggs. Warriors are born of discipline, will and sacrifice.
Tyrth, the first warrior-king of Foll   Tyrth, after whom many lakes, settlements, and geographical locations were named after is almost universally beloved by all from the Dragons of the Fourth All - aka Foll.

Origin

In this time, Tyrth was born in the tribe of First Folk, the very central of Tri-peak mountains. Stories about his life prior to becoming a tribe leader are shrouded in mystery, as most folklore about him tend to revolve about his various fantastical and possibly exaggerated traits. Strikingly handsome, fiercely mighty or simply alluringly diplomatic - one by one he united via force or strength of persuasion all the neighboring tribes under his own leadership...   ...And for the most part, even the conquered and beaten were rarely unhappy about this arrangement. Hard to say how much of it is a point of fiction as opposed to reality, but the time period was later during his rule announced to be the start of a new era. The Kingdom of Third All came to be thanks to him, and his descendants were further elevated to be the Kings and Queens of Foll.

Stories

Some of the stories about Tyrth that exist to this day are often still being developed and changed, as they are a favorite topic to be shared between adults to their offspring. And if one is deep in their cups, sometimes things are shared that they 'heard from the friend who had a friend'. Things that involve:   Tyrth was once so strong, he moved the mountain so that he wouldn't have to fly back home that far.   Tyrth managed to silence any protests simply by looking at them.   Tyrth is so manly, that he didn't even need a female to produce offspring.   And similar, equally fantastical stories.

Skulling ceremony

Though this is also the first recorded time of a Skulling taking place. Similar to how in our world we Crown our kings and queens. Tyrth established a new tradition, and was a recipient of - His fiercest competitor's skull with a top jaw was carved out, cleaned and is then ritually laid upon the head of the new Queen or King of Air Kingdom.   This tradition, as well as the skull, is kept to this day. And Skulling is meant to transfer the wisdom and strength of all the previous rulers onto the new one

Summary

According to legends, Tyrth the Sun dragon of legends have lead his brethren against Moon dragons and defeated them in a battle that took place above the mountains of Midrast. His scales caked in the blood of his enemies, he bathed in a lake later known as Tyrth's lake which currently marks the border between Air dragons and Mud dragons and took his hostages back to Three-Talon Peaks for interrogation.   After slaying all males and hatchlings, it is believed Tyrth imprisoned and enslaved the remaining female Moon dragons for himself and his relatives to use as they see fit. Cries of anguish, fear and pain were heard for many days and nights until eventually clutches of odd new dragons were laid.   Exactly twenty years after his triumphant victory, Tyrth and all his brothers and sisters died under mysterious circumstances.

Historical Basis

The truth in this legend lies in the Disappearance of Moon dragons. They indeed disappeared at around age 23 AA and this is the most well-known explanation for it. The appearance of new species could very well be explained by hybridisation between Sun dragons and Moon dragons but some sources claim that they started appearing even before year 0 AA.

Spread

The story is well-known amongst all Air dragons but much less known in other draconic species.

Variations & Mutation

Other permutations of this story say that instead of being captured and enslaved into brood lairs by Sun dragons, Moon dragons left fleeing the Continent and died at seas. Others claim that they are still alive to this day, hiding away and waiting for Sun dragons power to diminish before they strike back at their nemesis.

In Literature

Clay tablets of Air dragons are wide-spread about this event, yet it is usually treated as simple legend with very little truth to it.
Date of First Recording
23 AA
