    History

The name "Greencarer" comes from what the profession originally started as in the long past - farmers and herders of animals. They cared for growing plants, knowing which herbs and mushrooms are edible, and how to properly cook them.   Eventually, this drive to prepare food has evolved into furthering studies of nature, natural laws, Dreams and Gods, preparation of alchemical brews and astrological observations.   It became clear with the abundance of food that Greencarers could better spend their time elsewhere and so started passing down their knowledge to students in so called "Schools" - places secluded from tribes and politics, that function almost a city or tribe in itself. They have their own rules of conduct and leaders who teach the young all they knew.   It was a necessary establishment that didn't happen overnight and not without its own series of problems. Schools needed to provide for themselves and needed guards to protect its own teachers or students from within or outside threats. Some battles and wars were fought over independence of schools, and many of them were lost, forcing the schools to either ban heretical topics or to outright close down. Yet as time passed and leaders changed, the number of successful schools that managed to separate themselves and survive increased.   The two biggest schools known to dragon and gryphonkind are Dreamcarers and Starward Nation, who settled on secluded islands West and North of The Continent respectively.
