Open Vitues

Open Virtues are virtues that can be taken by any culture.

Apothecary

Prerequisite: Proficiency with herbalism kit or poisoner's kit.   You are well versed in exploiting the properties of nature's flora and fauna. Any time you are brewing a medicine or poison with the use of a kit, you may choose to gain the following benefit:   While taking the whole time necessary to brew a potion or poison, you may double your proficiency modifier when working out how many items you may brew at once.

Cultural Heirloom

Prerequisite: 4th level or higher   Your efforts on behalf of your people have not gone unnoticed – you are gifted an item of your choice from the list of your people’s Cultural Heirlooms, (see list starting on page 156). If lost or broken, heirlooms can be replaced at Sanctuaries. See the Loremaster’s Guide for more information on Sanctuaries.

Dour-handed

Prerequisite: 8th level or higher   When you throw a weapon or bend your bow, your hand is steady and your aim is sure. Raise the damage of all of your successful ranged attacks by half your proficiency bonus, rounded up.

Expertise

You have practised a skill until it has become as natural as breathing. Choose a skill you are proficient in. Double your proficiency bonus on skill checks made with the chosen skill.

Fell-handed

Prerequisite: 8th level or higher   You have learned to put all your strength into your blows in hand-to-hand battle. Raise the damage of all of your successful melee attacks by half your proficiency bonus, rounded up.

Sturdy

You descend from a hardy line and recover far more quickly than most others. You may re-roll Hit Dice spent during short rests and take the higher result.

Touch of Magic

You are gifted in the mystic powers of The Secret Fire, ancient spells and long forgotten magic flows through you. You have taught yourself how to channel this energy and begun a new journey into Spellcasting.   You learn two cantrips of your choice from the Adventures in Middle Earth spell list. You may also choose one 1st-level spell from that same list. You learn that spell and can cast it at its lowest level. Once you cast it, you must finish a long rest before you can cast it again. Your spellcasting ability for these spells is Intelligence.   You now also have access to the Research New Spell Undertaking which can be performed during the fellowship phase.   To learn more about Spellcasting in middle earth look at the Magic and Spellcasting rules section.
