The Right People

The Right People are a widespread brotherhood of thieves who rely on secrecy and a lack of scruples in its members to get them what they want; nothing is out of the question for one of The Right People. They seek to amass wealth and power for themselves and use violence where threats and extortion failed to yield profitable results.

Structure

The Right People are lead by a Legerdemain; a shadowy figure even within the organisation who's job it is to mediate the authority of the Dons. The Dons are the leaders of dens which are a comprised of members of The Right People. The Don divides the members of their den into one of seven houses based on the skill of the individual and the type of jobs their skills match up with, which they are assigned to upon initiation into organisation. The seven different houses are:
  • Palms - A group of the most unskilled members of any den, the Palms main job is to sit on street corners and bring in coin from begging. Palms are the least respected of the houses and are treated like slaves to the other houses.
  • Picks - Individuals with sticky fingers find themselves joining the Picks, their job is to make sure the purses of the wealthy don't get too heavy and relieve them of their burdens if they do. Picks are sneaky shadows who easily blend in with crowds, allowing them to pilfer the pockets of the wealthy and get away without detection.
  • Arrows - Arrows turn the rooftops of the cities' structures into a parkour playground, dashing from rooftop to rooftop to avoid detection. Arrows are skilled cat burglars who specify in infiltration, most often by scaling the sides of buildings to reach the upper floors and sweeping up the valuables from within without leaving a trace. It is near impossible to chase an Arrow if you can spot one at all.
  • Mauls - The meanest and toughest candidates find themselves a spot with the Mauls, the house of thickly muscled enforcers who resort to violence to get what they want. Mauls are the brawlers of the Right People, their job is to protect the interests of the dens where blackmail and bribery have failed. They are also loaned out on occasion to earn money as caravan or body guards.
  • Chords - If you have a quick tongue and a penchant for persuasion, you would most likely find a place among the Chords. Notes are a group of individuals who handle the persuasion, intimidation and manipulation of targets to the benefit of The Right People, they prefer to use blackmail and bribes to get what they want rather than violence but have a reputation for going through with their threats without hesitation.
  • Knives - The Knives are contract killers who execute their targets with cold hearted efficiency. The Knives are trained to employ a wide range of methods to kill their victims; poison, concealed blades, and subtle spells are but a few basic examples but the true skill of a Knife is being able to leave their kills in such a way as to deflect suspicion towards another source.
  • Nets - Inconspicuous people with an ear for scandal make their way into the Nets; the house of the informants and message runners. A Net's job is to blend into the background to pick up hints and rumours, a good Net is able to follow up on those rumours and search for solid evidence which can be used for blackmail. The Nets are also used to run messages between dens.
Each Den is spread out across multiple safe houses within a city. On occasion a situation will arise where a new Don attempts to establish themselves in a city already under the influence of an existing Don, this in-house fighting is frowned upon but not technically forbidden; as long as the dispute is handled discretely enough to avoid the detection of the cities' law enforcement. In such an even the Legerdemain makes it their priority to put an end to the squabbling one way or another.

Culture

The structure of The Right People is set up so that members are sorted based on their skills which correspond to what kinds of jobs they get to do for The Right People, of course each house views it's role within the guild as the most important which breeds a competitive atmosphere with each house trying to out-do their competition. The Dons encourage this behaviour in so far as it makes the houses more productive in their duties, but a wise Don will still nurture an atmosphere of teamwork for all of the houses so that they can work together for more complex jobs, a Chord might need the presence of a couple of Mauls for protection or to help their intimidation attempts, for example. The only house exempt from the competition are the Palms; a house of useless, unskilled individuals relegated to begging on the streets to bring scraps to the table at the very least, the Palms are downtrodden and disrespected with most members being sent there because their skills don't place them in another house or to be punished. Loyalty is foremost to the Right People and all of its members consider each other an extended family, they vow to take the secret of the Right People to the grave and to put differences aside and help the family when it’s threatened.

Public Agenda

The Right People are a thieves guild which seeks to amass wealth beyond the confines of the law. They go about this goal in a variety of ways, using the multiple skills of it's housing structure within dens to carry out a wide range of jobs which bring in coin. They take every opportunity to build their influence within cities, using violence to get what bribes and blackmail cant.
