XP Tablets Item in Miand'Mésvéstell | World Anvil

XP Tablets

General

XP Tablets are Artefacts of Power that are incredibly valuable and sought-after items. They also carry with them great dangers and some even use them either for torture or morbid executions.
In the hands of individuals capable of processing the knowledge and experience they contain, the tablets can allow anyone to do anything; from wielding a sword like a grandmaster with decades of experience, to how to masterfully create glass windows, to the innate intricacies in creating a stable PoE.

Few in number

Secured or Unknown Whereabouts

It is unknown exactly how many of these XP Tablets exist out there but at least two-hundred examples have been documented as of the writing of this text. Of them, only twenty-eight (28) have been accounted for and are safely stored within the Realm of Nhogard as of the writing of this text.
The whereabouts of the other one-hundred-and-seventy-two (178) are either completely forgotten, or shrouded in conflicting rumors.

Difficult manufacturing process

The reason as to why they are so few in number is due to the fact that they are difficult to manufacture. It is often said that you need the experience of a XP Tablet in order to know how to make an XP Tablet.
There have also been instances where XP Tablets have not been properly constructed and thus either the artifact itself have disintegrated over a period of time, or the experience within it has become corrupted and unusable.

Spoken of with reverence or fear

While most of the XP Tablets are remarkable enough to spark a long discussion or two, only a handful of their numbers are spoken of with reverence. The reasons for this may differ greatly: Some are notorious due to a former user, while others are well-known for the accomplishments they helped achieve.
These users and achievements may have either been for the good of others or for more selfish reasons. Some XP Tablets are thus spoken of with anger or fear, especially those who have become renown as instruments of torture or executions.

Used for torture or executions

As mentioned prior, some XP Tablets have been known to be used for less productive purposes. It is accomplished by pressing the artifact against someone's head and activating it. The knowledge stored within will then attempt to download itself into the mind of the unfortunate soul. However, due to the extensive amount of knowledge, and possibly due to it requiring a complex mind to comprehend, the mind of the recipient will incapable of processing it all.

Copy and Paste or Download

There is said to exist two types of XP Tablets. Those who can be used more than once, and the others who can only transfer experience one time only. The former ones are in a majority of times considered to be the more valuable ones, as their one-time usage is often used as a safeguard of a sort. While the latter ones are usually regarded with a more practical mindset, especially if it is in regards to certain mundane but useful experiences, whether it be something like baking bread or smith-working.
