DAD: The 3 Factions Era

Over the 21st century, Earth has been devastated by pollution and nuclear war. Resources have dwindled, pushing three-quarters of the world's population to extinction.

The struggle for water was the start of total madness. The planet's desert zone spread beyond the historic boundaries of the equator, causing famine, animal and plant species extinction, and the outbreak of dangerous diseases.

Following this, the war began. First, there were the hordes of migrants going to the historic northern empires. Repression and slaughter. Then, civil war, when there were not enough resources for the native citizens either. The environmental crisis, corruption, and greed caused the collapse of the world's governments, which ceased to guarantee the basic needs of their citizens.

Countries and their borders became irrelevant after violent rebellions broke out worldwide. This historical event is known as “The Lowering of the Flags.”

Cities became the primary form of political organization, loosely delimited by bloody wars driven by scarcity and misery.

Three large corporations share power: Telum, Invictus, and Machina. They produce food, technology, and weapons on a planet devastated by the climate crisis.

Desperation and fear are the weapons used by factions to control cities and their leaders. They become just another puppet in a power struggle.

Scarce resources limited technological advances related to weaponry, especially the once-powerful nuclear weapons. Some took advantage of this moment to announce and execute a plan that seemed mandatory: to scrap and ban the exploitation of uranium. Basically, to rid the world of nuclear technology and other dangerous stuff like cluster bombs.

Because of this, the future of the armament industry and their research development focused on perfecting a weapon “for the new times,” something good enough to fight for power but safe enough to live with it: Digital Avatars of Destruction (DAD).

DADs are ground combat vehicles similar to outdated tanks. Following the official repeal of the old weapons of war, they have become the planet's primary warfare force.

During civil unrest following “The Lowering of the Flags'', Telum -the first of the factions- offered DADs as a security measure to those who would pledge allegiance. Invictus and Machina followed, initiating a de facto war for power and influence.

Those who demonstrate mastery of these machines become their city’s leaders: the last chance for their people’s survival. Those who refuse drag their city to destruction and oblivion.

Chaos spreads, civilization collapses, and the future offers only one way out: survival.
