Dwarven

"There is perhaps no language closer to the Elder Speech in common use today than that of the Dwarven Dethek. Indeed many of their Rune Priests would have you believe the language was given to them by their Allfather at the Nexus of Creation." - Philipot Loffredo, Professor of Linguistics
Dwarven is the name of the family of languages used by dwarves. The Dwarves call their own language Dethek but most other races use this term to refer specifically to the runic alphabet the language is written in. In the modern day, actual Dethek words only make up a fraction of the words dwarves use in day to day interactions, with many tending to speak common littered with Dethek words. While this has made some consider the pure form of Dethek verbally a dying language, it is still in common use among the Rune Priests and found inscribed into weapons, buildings, and mystical items. Dethek is full of hard consonants and guttural sounds, these characteristics tend to spill over into other languages a dwarf may speak.

Writing System

The Dethek runic alphabet consists of 24 characters. this is because W, X, and Z are all represented by the same character. This may be confusing to humans attempting to translate the script into common

Geographical Distribution

The language is naturally most concentrated in the Dwarven Khauzat, remains in use by dwarves who have settled in other lands making it particularly widespread, with a notable concentration in The Freelands that has evolved into its own dialect, known as Eshimnol.
