Golems

Meridian Golems are a simple mechanical construct, powered by and enchanted with magic in order to follow basic instructions. Most utilize traditional humanoid locomotion but more unique models are not uncommon. The cost in material and craftsmanship required to create a golem body is high, and they require specialized enchanted crystals and an established method to charge, as such, only enchanters and other mages of some note tend to own golems, and other nobility settle for human servants.

Golems require several specially enchanted and maintained crystals in order to function. A golem's neural center can be as few as one Temerite crystal, however the more crystals used in the golem's neural center, the more complex instruction it can intemperate. In addition, each of the golem's joints require a stable Archonite crystal. Golems also need a stored power source inside their body in order to operate for more than a few moments.

Several instances of nearly-sentient golems have been recorded, however they were determined to still be very limited in their pre-made function. Theoretically however, if a golem were to have a large and complex enough neural crystal cluster, it could potentially achieve sentience.

Utility

Golems are usually tasked with manual labor that many mages find themselves too busy or proud to do, such as carrying heavy objects, making deliveries, or cleaning.

Manufacturing

A Golem's body is crafted by an artisan and then a Golemancer  embeds the necessary crystals made by an Enchanter and creates the neural core.
Access & Availability
Golems are widely available in Evrand but the maintenance requirement mean that most nobility do not have the facilities to upkeep golem servants. In other parts of the world Golems are not common.
Discovery
Golems were invented in 1920AC by researchers in The Magocracy of Evrand. The goal of the research was to have a fully functional but disposable lab assistant to work in hazardous environments.
