Flash Gate
The Flash Gate was originally created to facilitate travel between two cities. With two cylindrical gates utilizing Temerite and Archonite in an interwoven pattern, one can open a stabilized wormhole connecting two points in space.
Though travel through a Flash Gate was initially only slightly faster, in 2389AC researchers discovered that using a specialized shrinking spell that they could create a large wormhole and them using the spell, reduce the space inside the wormhole, thus reducing the travel time without increasing speed. After thousands of years of improvements, gate travel is nearly instantaneous, but the cost in raw magical power exponentially increases with distance. Most frequently used gates have a set schedule of when it will open, depending on the distance this may be weekly to monthly.
In 4272AC a large flash gate was placed into orbit around Meridia and another was propelled towards the nearby world Meridia-3. Four years later, in 4276AC, the first interplanetary flash gate was established and Meridians finally contacted the incredibly magic-rich planet Amaranthia (formerly Meridia-3). This gate, having to travel massive distance and transfer large objects, only opens briefly twice a year.
Flash Gates require several Temerite and Archonite crystals magically linked to each other on either end of the gate. These crystals must be paired while in close proximity to each other. This creates a unique gate-to-gate connection. Most gates on Meridia lead to the Everandum Portal Nexus however, direct-line gates are not rare.

Access & Availability
Ordinary citizens cannot afford travel by Flash Gate, only wealthy merchants, diplomats, or high-ranking military are capable of using them regularly. Adventurers are also sometimes known to save up money and use Flash Gates to head for Iron Hearth
Discovery
In 2376AC the Magocracy of Evrand invented the Flash Gate while researching ways to utilize Temerite & Archonite together.
