Fellcrest

Fellcrest was a small settlement in the Big Empty on the eastern side of the Ambit. It's home to the Keepers of the Tomb, and is slowly being made into a massive underground catacomb and settlement.

Demographics

Most of the population are residents of the settlement. They are either people who landed in Orisia, or their descendants.  There are also a number of students there who are helping work on the catacomb with free food and housing as well as gaining expirence for their time there in structural design, stonecutting, mining, and body embalming.

Government

The settlement has no official leader, and if a matter arises the residents all conduct a vote on how to approach it.

Defences

The isolated location is hidden away from the traffic headed in and out of the Kingdom of Brennis. Fellcrest is also quite high in elevation and has massive stone doors at the entrance of the Catacomb that can shelter everyone inside. The catacombs are houses for both the dead and living, and as such there is quite a lot of food and supplies hidden underground. The residents would be able to hide away underground for months if need be.

Industry & Trade

Fellcrest's main source of income is from selling slots in it's catacomb. It's rare that anyone has even heard of the settlement, let alone wishes to buy a plot, but it has happened.    They also have their worker program where someone can spend two years working on the catacomb and earn a free place inside. They are provided food and housing and learn a lot during their stay. The program has only seen about 30 students in total, but has been a big source of aid for the development of the catacomb. Those who graduate the program are invited to become premiant residents but are free to come and go as allies of Fellcrest.    There has been a small amount of copper the construction has revealed, this is also used is a trading resource when a specific tool or object is needed.

History

The Followers of the Tomb God were cracked down and often killed back in Rodina by the Order. Once the Long Dark had happened and passed the Order was a shell of it's former self and nearly destroyed by time, yet those who worshiped the Tomb God were still alive, and now could practice their religion in the open. They had slowly found one another from across the continent and even had a small settlement named Dead's Rest up far north and had planned on eventually starting a catacomb, but by the time construction had just started, the Colossus had risen up and quickly conquered most of Rodina.    Hearing word of what had happened they frantically spent all their time and resources building and boat and left the continent knowing that if they had died, the Tomb God would be fully forgotten. Floating on sea for over two months, they finally found land and headed to shore, landing on the southern coastline of the Big Empty. After a few days of recovery and gathering food from the new world, they headed inland further alongside the mountains. Eventually they found a secluded location with mountains nearly at every area and established a small camp there. After some debate among the people there, they agreed to establish a settlement in the new world and finally work on their great catacomb.    As time passed and they dug deeper and built room after room, the residents finally started to move inside the unfinished rooms rather than waste time working on houses up on the surface. Before long everyone was living underground and sheltered from the elements.

Architecture

The rooms of the catacombs that are mostly finished are quite impressive. The ground was dug out overtime and walls made from stones cut from the mountains that surrounded Fellcrest were put into place. Skulls and skeleton motifs are common along the walls and doors of Fellcrest. The residents know they are guarding the dead and don't fear death at all.   Most of the Catacomb is dug out caverns and empty caves supported with stone blocks and wooden posts. Construction is slow going, but nearly constant.

Geography

Fellcrest is at high elevation and at the base of the Ambit. They get water from small creeks that run down the hills, and food from game and some wild plants. Growing food doesn't work too well for the people of Fellcrest and so during the spring and summer, they collect more than what they need and preserve it for the colder months.    During the winter the ground near the surface is far too hard to dig out, so they usually focus on cutting stones they brought from the mountains earlier that year. When spring comes along, that's when stonecutting slows down, and people either head to the mountains to gather stones, or dig out new rooms in the catacomb.
