The fallen star

This solo adventure can be enjoyed by everyone. But if you have decided to join one of the the three possible paths, you might get more out of it. If you haven't, you might want to consider taking the Choose your path quiz, join a subscriber group, and then come back.

Rules

Let us talk about rules, because every good games should have some rules. For the adventures in Meowrintha the rules are really simple. You most likely have already realised that you are an adventurer. To make things more interesting you have three lives, displayed as a

. It is up to you to remember how many
you currently have. As soon as you run out of
the adventure ends for you.

In this adventure time will be of the essence. From time to time (no pun intended) you will have to make decisions, that will take some time. Please remember, how much time you are supposed to add, indicated by this: +2. This is very important to find the end the matches the route you took.

The adventure starts, obviously, at Scene 1. Follow the story down. Sometimes you will make jumps, and when in doubt where to continue, pay attention to the red (or pink) colored headlines. Sometimes the jumps will go directly to a quote.

Scene 1 - In the castle

You received a letter from Rin Talos, a renowned—if not the most renowned—astronomer in Meowrintha, who is summoning you to the royal castle in Purrington. As soon as you arrive, you are being escorted to the tower that is Rin's home and working place. Rin tells you that they saw a star fall to Earth somewhere in the Whisper Woods and now wants you to find the star for them and bring it to them.
Before you leave the town, you stock up on provisions. You can also take one more item with you that might come in handy later on your journey. Choose only one of the items!

And so the adventure begins ...

Scene 2 - At the crossroads

Having finished everything you wanted to do in town, you set off in the general direction Rin had told you to go, following the signposts bearing the inscription Whisper Woods. After being on the road for +2 hours, you arrive at a fork in the road without any signposts. Do you have the map?

You don't have the map, so you have to figure out the correct way on your own. What would you like to do?

Turn left Turn right Look around

You decide to take a closer look around. Let's find out what you can discover. 1d6

1 - 3
You spot a shepherd in the distance and ask him for directions.
4 - 6
You’ll find the road sign lying in the grass, pointing to the right path as the correct one.

He eyes you sceptically and you try to win his trust. 1d6

1 - 3
He tells you to go the left way. You are not sure, if you were able to convince him, and if he is speaking the truth.
4 - 6
He tells you to go the right way. You are not sure, if you were able to convince him, and if he is speaking the truth.

Scene 3 - The way to the forest

The left way

Let's see, how you fare...

You follow the path for about one and a half hour until you reach a high cliff. This was obviously the wrong direction.

You turn around and add +3 hours to your counter.

You take the right way and reach the forest after another +1 hour of walking. Everything goes really smooth so far and you finally enter the Whisper Woods.

Scene 4 - Through the forest

You enter the forest, hesitantly. Barely any daylight filters through the dense canopy; eerie sounds echo from the shadows and an uneasy feeling creeps over you. Nevertheless, you press on undeterred. You get the impression that the vegetation around you is trying to prevent you from reaching your destination. Branches hang in your way, roots rise up and try to make you stumble, thorny vines snag on your clothes. As you approach a row of weeping willows, the impression grows stronger: the branches of the trees seem to move exactly in the direction you are heading. They hang so close together that it is impossible to get through. Did you pick the torch?

You light the torch and hold it out towards the branches. As if by magic, they part to let you through, granting you deeper access to the forest. After +1 hour, you finally reach your destination: the impact crater.

There are two options for you to get to your target. Which one will you choose?

Find another way.

You try to find a way around the weeping willows. It is not an easy task and you could swear the trees are moving with you, but finally you are able to reach your goal.

This detour took longer than expected. Add +4 hours to your counter.
Cut your way through.

You decide to force your way through the branches. 1d6

1 - 3

You are good, but the trees are better. You get cut very bad.

It was a tough fight, and you’ve got the wounds to prove it. You loose one
and have to add +3 hours to your counter, but finally make it to the crater.
4 - 6

As you hack your way through the branches, you make your way to the crater. The vegetation doesn’t stand a chance against your weapons, but you still need +2 hour to hack your way through and reach the crater.

Scene 5 - The impact crater

After many hours of walking, you finally arrived at the impact crater. It is massively huge, bigger than you would have imagined it to be. How long did it take you to get here?

Arrival after nine hours or less

You make your way down into the centre of the crater. The slope is slippery and treacherous, and you keep tripping over. Will you still manage to get down safely? 1d6

1 - 2

One moment you feel as though you’ve got a firm footing and are already looking to see where you’ll step next; the next, the ground is pulled from under your feet and you stumble, tumble and roll several metres down. You come away with a few grazes.

Subtract one
3 - 4

At one point, you’re just a hair’s breadth away from sliding down the slope, but you manage to pull yourself together just in time. However, you decide to play it safe from now on and take things a bit slower.

This costs you +1 more hour.
5 - 6

The whole thing is way easier for you than it seemed to be at first. You make it down safely and in a time that is not worth mentioning.

At the center

At last! You’ve finally made it to the centre of the crater. A light is gently pulsing in the middle. Slowly and carefully, you approach the object and are surprised to find that it isn’t a rock, but an egg. An egg about the size of a melon. You lift it gently and put it in your rucksack. Then you set off back to the castle.

At last! You’ve finally made it to the centre of the crater. Slowly and carefully, you approach the object and are surprised to find that it isn’t a rock, but an egg. An egg about the size of a melon. Unfortunately, your travel took you so long, that whatever once was in there has already hatched. You still pack the empty shell in your backpack and head back to the castle.

Scene 6 - Back to the castle

You make your way back to the castle. This time, you know the way, so you arrive at the crossroads after +1 hour. An armed person is lurking around there. When they see you, they draw their weapon and demand a toll. Do you have Rin's coin?

They will not let you go any further and continue to demand the toll. The only other item of worth you can offer them is the egg. What will you do?

Try to convince him.

You try to explain to him, that you are on a very important mission and time is of the essence. 1d6

1 - 4.

As he is raising his weapon, it is obvious that you have to fight him.

5 - 6

Your words convince him to let you through, but not without spending quite some time arguing with him.

Add +1 hour to your counter and had home.
Try to intimidate him.

You start yelling at him, raising your own weapon and demand he let's you continue your way. 1d6

1 - 4

It doesn't seem that he is impressed or intimidated by you at all. There is only one thing left to do: fight him!

5 - 6

For a short moment he seems consider fighting you, but then decides otherwise and let's you pass. Eagerly you continue your way home.

As soon as they see the coin, they step back and let you continue your way. You make haste to reach the castle and arrive after another +2 hours.

The fight is balanced for a long time. Slowly but surely, you’ll notice your strength waning and your concentration fading. Will you be able to still win this? 1d6

1 - 4

Your oppontent was too strong for you. Badly injured you are lying on the ground and can only watch as he is taking the egg and leaves.

Add +1 hour to your counter, subtract two
and, if still able to, had home.
5 - 6

With your last strength you hurt your opponent bad enough for him to flee.

Add +1 hour to your counter and had home.

Scene 7 - The conclusion

Finally, you are back at the castle. Where you able to bring back the egg?

Rin is delighted to see that you have returned with the egg. They do seem to be confused about the fact, that it is an egg though and not some rock.

Rin isn't too happy about your failure. They try not to show it, but you can see that they already think about how to clean up your mess. Before focusing their full mind on this new problem, they dismiss you and you wonder if they will ever summon you again or whether your career as a hero has come to a premature end.
