Kingdom on the Brink - Session 32
General Summary
The party quickly bandages themselves up and continue on to the Lagoon Port goons hideout, on arrival the party finds the hideout and see it's been fortified, Ashara moves up and the Warlord takes cover and begins to laydown arrow fire. The party moves up and Del Varis closes the distance on one of the Mountain Archers, they use spike growth to block their advance, the other Mountain Archer started to fire at Del Varis and then Misty Steps away into another building. Ashara jumps over all the spike growth that's put up in her path, the Diviner casts ice Storm which hits Tia, Stormsong, and Hendred which downs her. The archers and Warlord continue to laydown cover fire as Runsha, Ashara, and Del Varis moves up. Tia flies over to Hendred and attempts to find a health potion on her, but is unsuccessful and Stormsong pulls out her broom of flying and takes to the air. Ashara closes in on the Warlord and recklessly attacks him, but the Warlord responds with a legendary action and attacks with his greatsword, landing a critical hit, he swings twice more at Ashara and lands two more severe blows. Del Varis closes in on one of the archers in the building but in his haste he misses a glyph of warding at the entrance and is engulfed in a cloud of acid, this doesn't phase him and he continues his attack landing several strikes. One of the archers moves out of the building and fires on Ashara and the archer in melee attacks Del Varis at point blank range and then misty steps away into another building, which irks Del Varis. The Diviner casts scorching ray on Ashara but most of the damage is either dodged or resisted, the Warlord and Ashara continue their fight and Ashara starts to break through the fortification to negate the cover. Hendred continues to bleed out but Tia realizes she has some spells and cast cure wounds on Hendred and drags her behind a building for cover. The archers focus on Stormsong but she is able to evade them with her cloack of displacement, Storm song returns the favor by casting several firebolts at the archers. The party starts to close in on the main building, Hendred moves up and heals the group while Stormsong and Tia cover the movement from the air and set the side of the building on fire. Runsha makes it into the building and evades a glyph of warding and Del Varis is trying to chase down the archers, their teleporting is starting to get to Del Varis who intentionally sets off a glyph but comes out unscathed. Stormsong, Runsha, Ashara, and Hendred continue to push back the Warlord, Diviner, and one of the archers into a corner when the Diviner casts a fireball on the group which downs Ashara. Hendred heals the group again and they focus on bringing down the Warlord, who falls soon after, the Diviner tries to turn the tide by casting mass suggestion and telling the group to leave. Runsha and Stormsong can't be charmed due to his aura but Ashara and Hendred fall under the suggestion, Hendred begins to leave and Runsha runs over to Ashara which temporily suppresses the charm, they concentrate on dealing with the Diviner first before Hendred. The Diviner starts taking fire from all directions and upcasts a scorching ray at Runsha, achieving some success, but succumbs to his wounds shortly thereafter, both archers have now teleported outside the main building and Tia starts to pick them off. Runsha punches Ashara to negate the suggestion and then chases after Hendred, Del Varis sees Runsha and chases after him, hearing him shout he'll hit Hendred, Del Varis catches up with Hendred and says that he thinks Runsha wants to hit her with a health potion. Tia hackes through the building with her hatchet and flies over to engage the last archer in Melee, landing several strikes, killing off the last of the Lagoon Port goons. Runsha launches a javelin at Hendred, striking true, and shakes Hendred from the suggestion, Del Varis is surprised and retracts his statement about Runsha hitting her with a health potion.
The party licks their wounds while the building starts to burn up, Ashara rushes in and pulls the bodies out, Stormsong pulls them further while Ashara rushes back in, Stormsong begins looting the bodies. Ashara pulls out the portable hole and starts to put anything of interest into it: Desk, footlocker, crates, shelves, and she also grabs up a bunch a papers and jumps out of the window twenty feet up, breaking her ankle on landing. Ashara quickly heals and the party begin to leave the area, Ashara finds an abandon house to rest in, while Runsha returns to his room at the "Better than you" inn. Tia, Hendred, and Stormsong get something to eat before going separate ways, Stormsong goes to sell off her loot. Ashara returns to the battle site and waits, it attracts more people and eventually some of the lower ranking Lagoon port thugs appear, Ashara attempts to intimidate them but doesn't seem too successful. She wanders the city and finds more and tells them they should leave the city, they don't react but they also don't outright attack her because of the crowds, Ashara spends a few more hours walking around and notices the goons aren't a cohesive force anymore. Going down an alley way a figure gets her attention and tells her someone is interested in meeting the party, giving her a time and place. Ashara goes to the temple where Hendred is staying and they begin to go over everything Ashara took from the burning building. They find several papers that describe what the Lagoon Port Shipping Guild wants from Ricard Bridgeford in exchange for their services, they also find a list of spell components and Hendred believes she found instruction on how to potentially make a potion of disintegrate, they also find a note:
Stormsong knocks on the door and enters throwing gold at both Hendred and Ashara, saying it's their cut of the loot, they thank her and Ashara mentions they need to gather the party because they have a meeting, Stormsong runs off before she finishes and Ashara goes to find Tia. Stormsong runs into the inn and asks the barkeep if Runsha is there, the barkeep explains they don't handout that information to just anyone but Stormsong runs up before he finishes. She starts to knock aggressively on the first door and by chance it happened to be Runsha's room, before Runsha can say anything Stormsong throws gold at him and runs off, leaving a perplexed Runsha. Ashara and Tia make it back to the temple and find Hendred and Stormsong, they ask where Runsha and Del Varis is, Stormsong realizes she forgot to tell Runsha about the meeting and Her and Hendred go to get Runsha. Ashara and Tia leave shorty thereafter and find Del Varis in the temple reading a book, the group converges on the meeting location. They enter the building and are greeted by an elf, she welcomes them and introduces herself as "Arryn Sylris" she explains she helping the Eastbrook coalition and believes the party and herself are working towards the same goals and she tells the party about another group that is supporting Ricard Bridgeford in more subtle ways. She explains this group is hiding in the warehouse district of Aramore and that there's an artificial canal running through the area. After some more questions the group agrees to deal these people as it would further weaken Ricard's position within the city. Since the party is still recovering from the fight earlier in the morning Ashara, Tia, and Del Varis decide they should scout out the location and report back to the group. Ashara leaves behind most of her things, except her flametongue and a shield, Tia flies six hundred feet in the air while Ashara and Del Varis sneak through the streets. Unfortunately the group is discovered and the sentinels tell the scouting group they can't be here, there's some back and forth but the sentinel's are firm that the party must turn back. Ashara is more forceful and mentions Bernard Ursel's name which puts the sentinels in an aggressive stance and fighting breaks out. One of the casters launches a fireball and Del Varis moves in to attack, inflicting minimal damage, Ashara runs in and switches spots with Del Varis. Ashara gets paralyzed and and is quickly downed by the Blackguard and the other caster sends three magical missiles at Ashara to finish her off. Del Varis and Tia disengage and flee the area.
The party regroups in the morning and Del Varis and Tia explain what happened, this pisses of Runsha and the party thinks they might of made things worse, possibly sealing Bernard's fate. They go back to Arryn and explain what happened, this leaves her furious and unable to put together a coherent thought. Between Tia and Runsha they notice a vase of Leranth Rose and pictures of Bernard and Arryn and Runsha tells Arryn that her boyfriend is dead (in a very uncaring way), an enraged Arryn screams at the party to leave. The party discusses the events and realized that Ashara is in the clutches of the enemy and that their options are drastically fewer then yesterday, Runsha is concerned that Ricard will connect Runsha's meeting him with Ashara mentioning Bernard's name. They realize they need to find Bernard's allies and send Stormsong to talk to Arryn and hopefully smooth things over so they can find Horatius Dragomir. Stormsong engages Arryn and is able to start a conversation, she mentions they need to find Horatius, Arryn gets defensive accuses the party of possibly getting Horatius captured like Bernard. Stormsong is able to sooth some of Arryn's concerns but due to Stormsong not understanding everything that's happening thinks that Bernard and Horatius are the bad people they're after. This sends Arryn into a fury and proceeds to tell Stormsong that Bernard has only ever cared for Bralor, that he left Aramore to rebuild Hillfar after The Bloody year (leaving her behind), and now the kingdom he cared so much about would be his undoing. This stuns Stormsong and she starts to leave, saying how sorry she is that this is how events unfolded. The party don't see any other way to cleanly recover the situation and so they take the information they have and begin to reach out to their contacts.
A tension hovers over the city, with the Lagoon port goons broken an equilibrium is no more and the Eastbrook coalition has a slight advantage, but the situation isn't a clear victory yet.
