Zombie

Zombies together with skeletons , are the most commonly know the form of Undeath. These creatures are not really creatures at all in a sense, but animated corpses of deceased.

Genetics and Reproduction

Almost any type of corpse of a living being can turn into a zombie on the right circumstance. Some creatures (like some Celestials) might be immune to this process, or at least resistant to it.
Zombies come about in 3 different ways. The most common one is that the corpse of the deceased gets corrupted by necrotic energy. This might be caused by something foul on the corpses resting place or by a simple quirk in the way Prime material plane and Shadowfell overlap.
The second method is being killed by a zombie or other creature (mostly other undead) that contaminate the corpse and it rises after some period of time. Not all zombies can transfer this condition though, and time for it to take effect can vary widely.
