Void Fever

Transmission & Vectors

Void Fever is the name given to a disease caused by a rare side effect from Magic Balance potions and occasionally from overuse of magic. It's not transmittable from person to person or by any other means.

Symptoms

People who catch Void Fever experience intense headaches, nausea, and experience horrific hallucinations. Those who have contracted Void Fever say that it feels as if beasts from the void are sinking their claws into your head and are trying to drag you down into the abyss. While under the effects of Void Fever one can also cast no magic, and even has the potential to "forget" how to cast certain spells once the fever expires.

Treatment

There is no real known cure for Void Fever and in most cases friends of the afflicted must simply keep close watch on them to insure their safety from themselves. Light brothy soups made from medicinal herbs have found to help alleviate the symptoms in some cases, but their effectiveness varies on a case by case basis.

Prognosis

Void Fever typically only lasts a few hours, but there have been recorded of cases lasting up to a week under extreme circumstances.

Sequela

In most situations the affected person makes a complete recovery with no lingering side effects, but there have been recorded times in particularly violent cases of Void Fever where the afflicted suffered lasting memory loss from the time they had the fever.

History

Void Fever was first discovered in people who had to frequently use magic for their job, requiring them to drink excessive amounts of Magic Balance potions so that they could avoid Magic Trance. The earliest recorded cases were often the worst since doctors didn't understand where the fever was coming from.

Cultural Reception

After discovering that the Void Fever often was a result of drinking too many Magic Balance potions, the Kingdom of Elura and the Kingdom of Gwandrin imposed regulations on the professions which caused the workers to consume so many by limiting their work hours.
