The Olren Library

"Oh, you're looking for books? You'll want to check out Ol' Gran's up by the palace." The shopkeep took out a small map of Skelna and pointed out a building marked "Olren Library" to the confused looking traveler.   "Ah I see, thank you for the information! Erm, why's it called Ol' Gran's, exactly? If I may ask..." The traveler looked up from the map the man before him was pointing at.   The shopkeep chuckled. "Us locals call it Ol' Gran's because Ol' Gran gets mad at us if we don't! She is currently in charge of the Keepers, who own the Olren Library and are the main scholarly group in Skelna. You should really do some reading up on a place before you visit it lad!"   The man let out a bellowing laugh. Thanking the shopkeep again for his kindness, the traveler turned and walked back out onto the hectic streets of Skelna's main market area and set off in search of "Ol' Gran's".

Purpose / Function

The Olren library is the largest library in the capital of the Kingdom of Gwandrin, Skelna. It was originally a large military headquarters located near the king's palace in Skelna, but the building was later repurposed to be a library and study for scholars after the War of the Rift. The reasoning for the change was that the king of Gwandrin made an agreement with the king of Elura to downsize their forces after the war, and because the Keepers had been requesting a larger building to use for their studies.

Alterations

The exterior of the Olren library used to have many sharp, squared off edges back when it was a military HQ which have since been rounded down to make the building look more appealing to visitors. The cells that used to house prisoners were repurposed with bookshelves and reading tables to hold valuable or forbidden tomes of knowledge, since a key is required to enter them. The interior of the building was opened up and more windows were added so that the building would be less stuffy, and reading alcoves were installed into many of the walls for visitors who wished to hang out and read in the library.
