The Grand Dunes

Geography

The Grand Dunes is the name of the desert at the western section of the Kingdom of Gwandrin. It is home to a series of massive sand dunes that hide the Exiles' Bridge and a strikingly diverse amount of flora. The outer reaches of the Grand Dunes are typical desert aside from the unusually large sand dunes, but as one gets closer to the center of the area, the size of the dunes decreases dramatically and travelers begin to run into all manner of unique plant life that can't be found anywhere else in Gwandrin.   The closer one gets to the Exiles' Bridge, the more diverse the flora. Curiously, the animals inhabiting the Grand Dunes are the same creatures that inhabit the other parts of the Gwandrin Desert. Scholars think that this is because while plant seeds could blow in across the desert, animals would still have to brave the harsh conditions to get to the tropical paradise near the Exiles' Bridge, and so the diversity of flora has increased much quicker than the fauna.

Fauna & Flora

Flora:
The Grand Dunes contain a truly staggering amount of Flora seen in combinations that shouldn't be possible. Palm Trees and Cedar Trees are seen side by side in many places, as well as Ice Flowers and Spark Roses. Jungle Grass can be found mixing with Scorch Weed in the shade of Fir Trees. Additionally, the Grand Dunes are home to many plant species that have not been properly labeled by scholars.

  Fauna:
The wildlife in the Grand Dunes mostly consists of standard desert fauna such as lizards, snakes, slimes and meerkats, but Cogfish have been spotted in the lake around the Exiles' Bridge from time to time as well.

History

The Grand Dunes used to be less of a literal name. Sometime long ago after Gwandrin's founding, it's said that the Grand Dunes were named such because of the way the sun bounced light between the rolling sand. After the Exiles' Bridge was later constructed in the center of the Grand Dunes, the location began to experience change: The area immediately around the Bridge turned into a medium sized lake, the sand a bit away from the lake edge turned to fertile soil, the dunes a few miles away began to grow, and strange new plants began to appear in the area.
