Emura

The best way to describe the Emura would probably be to picture them as a more regal looking Emu with large wings and four legs. The front two legs are more like arms, and their front "feet" have the equivalent of a human thumb with which they can grab onto things.

Additional Information

Domestication

Emuras were recently domesticated and began to be farmed for their unique feathers and meat. Wild Emuras are very fast and skittish, so the first recorded attempts at domestication involved the use of charm spells to calm them down. This is also how Emura antenna feathers became known for absorbing and retaining magic, as the charm spells used on the Emura lasted far longer than normal due to the feathers retaining the spell extremely well.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Feathers:
Emuras are commonly farmed for their very valuable "antenna" feathers. Emura antenna feathers have the ability to retain magical enchantments, which while fairly common among rocks, minerals and metals, is quite rare among wildlife. When the antenna feathers of an Emura are plucked, the poor creatures usually get depressed for a few days and seem to lose their sense of balance. The feathers do eventually grow back, but each time it's harder to remove them. As such, Emura whose atenna feathers can no longer be removed are typically sold as pets, riding animals, or for food.   Food:
Emura meat is very tender and tastes mostly like a very high quality beef, however it also has a very distinct tang to it that isn't found in any other known animal meat.

Facial characteristics

Every Emura also has two "antenna" feathers near the top of their heads which are thought to be used to locate water and food sources through magical means.

Civilization and Culture

Courtship Ideals

Emura seem to relate antenna feather size with attractiveness, as it's not uncommon to find Emura with particularly large head feathers surrounded by numerous female (or squabbling male) Emura, whereas those with smaller antenna feathers are often found alone and outcast.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Feathers:
Emura feathers are clean in appearance sporting vibrant pastel colors. Each feather is fairly thick and full and resembles those of typical flight-capable birds.   Skin:
An Emura's skin is usually hard to see due to their dense feathers, but if one was to slide the feathers aside they would likely see the skin presenting a dull gray or white coloring.
