The Forbidden Lands

What name this wasteland once had has either been lost to history or willfully forgotten by the people of the Soulforge Alliance. As a result of the War of the Roses, this land was ravaged by savage battle magic that left it warped and twisted.   Entering this land is forbidden. If a person is caught coming out of the Forbidden Lands, it is a  crime punishable by death, as such a thing was to invite corruption into your soul. The magics wouldn’t fade and the power could destroy a person, cause them to go insane, or corrupt them to the lost cause of the Twilight Empress. Never mind that the Empress herself was believed dead these many centuries. It was a long held belief that Kephru Moonsilver, the Twilight Empress’s mother, was in league with Tehaksha Soul Eater, the naga goddess that ruled over the underworld; therefore, to enter the Forbidden Lands would place you under the Soul Eater’s influence. Such a person would only truly be half alive, their only purpose would be to obey their mistress’ wishes, killing to keep her fed with the souls of good people.   Anyone caught leaving these lands is automatically branded with the death mark and imprisoned under a very powerful binding spell. There are no interrogations, no questions asked. All executions take place no longer than three months after the person in question was condemned.   Some maintain that the magic would twist your body and turn you into some sort of monster. Such a creature would be killed if it tried to return to the inhabited lands. The changed person wouldn’t even have a chance to tell anyone who they were before they were showered with arrows dipped in a particularly nasty poison designed by Earthe mages specifically to kill such things.   The term forhielin is applied to people caught leaving these lands. While it only means 'from the Forbidden Lands', it's not a particularly nice word
