Aurora Palace Building / Landmark in Melphor | World Anvil

Aurora Palace

Purpose / Function

At one time in Melphor's history, this was the terrestrial residence of the goddess Shan-Illu. After her daughter Hihaye was old enough to rule in her stead, the palace was given to her.

Architecture

The thick wooden door of the great hall is carved with a shield depicting a many rayed sun behind three roses. Between the roses and the shield are images of the of staffs carried by each of the rulers involved in the Forging: Duchess Al’hya of the shai'then, Queen Deiyanra of the naga, King Stallion Tanvihr of the centauricorn, and Ranee Eialia of the lunyari. It was the sigil of the Soulforge Alliance, a device that appeared almost everywhere on Ardren in its simplified form of a shield with the sun and the three roses. It only appeared in its full form in the most important places.   There is a round table in the middle of the room, carved from a single, massive block of white granite. The seven chairs around it are made from skillfully carved cherry wood and polished with an oil made from seaweed that gave it a lighter red shine than what it would naturally have had. The cushions and padding were made from white silk and had the Empress’s sigil as well as the Alliance sigil on the padding of the backrest stitched in gold colored thread. On the seat cushion, the House sigil of the person that would occupy that chair was stitched in full color and carved into the back of the chair as well. The banners of the Houses of the people who would use this room were the only ones present on the walls in addition to the flags of the Alliance’s member countries.
