Brandjordian Culture
Although belonging to the race of Men, the people of
Brandjorden is so different, both physically and mentally from the Människarians, that they are seen almost as a different race, suffering from a strong xenophobia from the Winter peoples. Yet, there are many who appreciate and manage to see the beauty and uniqueness in the culture of the Burned Men.

The Adulthood Ritual
Most commonly practised amongst the
Meru peoples, when a young boy reaches the age of 13, in order to become a man and be given the right to marry and fight for his home. The ritual is carried out near a body of water, be it the nearest river or a distant oasis. It matters not whether it is a great rushing torrent with birds and daggerfish playing at the edges, or a trickling sludge, more sand than water. His family and kin gather around on one side of the river, upon which the young Meru crosses the river three times, representing three crossings he will make in his life. The first, at birth, as he crosses through his mother. Again, at his coming of age, and finally, once more, he crosses waters with the help of Al-Nisa, the mother goddess, when he dies.
