Mindrot

For most of the known world, the insidious disease known as mindrot is a horrifying and ultimately fatal condition for which there is no known cure. Even worse, victims of this illness will continue long after they have succumbed to the disease.
Little is known of just what causes mindrot to start and spread, though most outbreaks tend to start in the hot, humid parts of the world. The disease runs its course over a period of weeks and has a lethality rate approaching fifty percent.
Those infected with mindrot experience fever chills, dizziness, confusion, and lethargy, making the early stages or the disease nearly indistinguishable from the common cold, influenza, and malaria. for this reason, many outbreaks of mindrot have reached the critical tipping point long before anyone realizes they are infected, and by then, it is already too late.
During the second stage of the disease the true horror takes hold. Lethargy is replaced with a frantic, almost manic energy, and those infected begin to speak incoherently with a giggling cackle that grow progressively grows worse as the disease progresses. The victim's strength increases, and only the devouring of fresh, typically live flesh abates the condition for a shortening period of time.
