Geography

Mechanus is an infinitely large dimenional plane filled with an infinitely number of round interlocking gears (cogs) that serve as the land and ground the denizens dwell upon. Some are as small as islands and others as large as continents. Every cog is comprised of interlocking teeth that meet each other at perfect right angles. Each cog has it's own gravitational pull on both sides that is equal to the gravity on the material plane. The size of the cog reflects the speed at which it rotates with the smaller rotating significantly faster than the larger in a perfect mathematical progression. Regardless of rotational speed, inhabitants of each cog do not feel centripetal force once they enter the gravitational force of the cog.

Ecosystem

The weather is always the same and never changes, regardless of the time of day or year. The top half of Mechanus is directly in daylight, while the bottom half is shrouded in darkness. Twice a day all the darkness and daylight switch to provide an equal amount of light and dark to the denizens of Mechanus.

Localized Phenomena

Primus, the deity of Mechanus and the one all modrons are aware of and serve. He is depicted as a humanoid android and dwells within a castle made completely of cogs and gears in the very center, or heart of Mechanus. Primus is able to telepathically communicate with all modrons regardless of rank, but only while he resides within Mechanus. Primus has 4 acting generals called the secundus. The 4 members of the secundus report directly to Primus and carry out his will. In the event of Primus' death, the highest ranking secundus is promoted into becoming the new Primus.

Fauna & Flora

Mechanus is home to many species and people, but only has one native species called modrons. Modrons are immortal humanoid shaped beings crafted from various earth based elements and stones which determine their place or standing within society. They have the appearance of being made from gears and the innerworkings of a clock. Their society is similar to a hive-like hierarchy who adhere to law and order above all else. Modrons only listen to and follow orders from another modron that is one order above their own. They are also only aware of modrons that are either one below or one higher than their own rank. Outside of those, any other modron beyond are either too simple or too advanced to understand. Modrons have no sense of self outside of what is required of them to perform and complete their rolls or duties. They exist as a unified collective divided by rank and always refer to themselves collectively instead of in a singular fashion (we, us). They obey any and all ordered received from their deity, Primus
Vegetation and natural wildlife are not naturally occurring in Mechanus, but as time has passed, many colonists from other planes have brought trifles and trinkets with them. Many cogs have been converted into nature reserves, elaborate hedge mazes, parks, hellscapes, etc. So long as what was brought does not disobey the laws of Mechanus, they are allowed to remain in place. The only exception is a hotly debated issue that says the formians were the original inhabiting species of Mechanus or are at least an invasive species. Formians are depicted as humanoid giant ants that are between 3 feet to 10 feet in length depending on their rank. They can telepathically communicate with other formins that are within a 50 miles of one another and function like a hivemind focusing on and taking orders from their queen. Only one queen can rule a single cog and occasionally works with other queens if they have similar interests or goals. The scion queen mother rules over all the formians from a 3000 mile cog known only as "the center"

Natural Resources

There are equal amounts of all four elements present within Mechanus. The cogs are made from earth, stone and metal ores, as if they were crafted directly from the mantle cosmos by an unknown diety.

History

Mechanus - is a Lawful Neutral dimensional plane and reflects itself within its denizens. It is also considered the opposite plane to Limbo (Chaotic Neutral). "Perfectly regimented order reigns supreme" Here exists a perfect balance between all things; equal measures of light/dark, heat/cold, and all four elements. There is a place for everything and everything has its place. Pain and suffering do not exist and the only pleasure to be found is in serving one's roll (like a gear in a machine) for the greater good of Mechanus. Emotions do not exist with the exception of visitors exhibiting these. If anyone were to try and disrupt the flow of Mechanus, they would be met with force and asked to leave.

Tourism

All are welcome to visit and even move to Mechanus, although all laws must be obeyed at all times or else risk being jailed or exiled from ever returning.
