Androids

"Android" generally refers to a robot modeled after some sentient species operating primarily by a learning artificial intelligence, rather than being programmed manually for a set of tasks. Androids are typically far less capable than robots, but also less specialized and therefore more flexible. Some classes of androids are designed to imitate biological life as closely as possible, while others feature more functional designs.
There is some debate about the rights of androids, and whether they are truly sentient.

Utility

The primary advantage of androids over robots is their adaptability, making them attractive for applications such as deep space missions where modification of robots is unpractical. Androids are often used for exploration of or work in harsh environments.
