Though successful the first attempt at FTL travel ended in disaster. Hoping to increase trade Venus and the Omona Mega corp worked together for years building an FTL hyper jump unit. A Venus capital ship was retrofired with several titan rank cores and tore a hole in space time to jump from Venus to the asteroid belt. The mission was a success as the capital ship appeared within Omona airspace seconds after its departure. However a micro black hole formed at the exit point destroying the ship and the Omona corp. This black hole would cause problems for years afterwards.

Financial EventFor a decade the black hole in the asteroid belt wrecked havoc while the planets tried to figure out a way to deal with it. Eventually a group of seeking a new home petitioned various to fund the terraforming of Jupiter's moons. The Mars Theocracy agreed and drafted a contract granting 100 years of amnesty after which Mars would be entitled to yearly tribute.
