Water Fairies
The Wet Ones
Water Fairies have a connection with sea animals. When sad the area around them becomes more humid and it’s more likely to rain. When angry and near water there’s a chance they’ll make it start boiling. They always instinctively know where the nearest source of water is. They have been known to make snow melt in fits of rage (that other fairies may have incicited specficically for that purpose). They know when it is going to rain soon, they can feel incoming floods and hurricanes, and while they don't really control the water, they make the best sailors as sea vessels always come back if a water fairy is aboard. Many are great surfers. Some can drink excessive amounts of water and not have to breathe for longer than any other species (besides wind fairies) could. Unlike Woodland fairies, some Water fairies have been known to become conversational with higher intelligent sea animals. Dolphins in particular tend to be the most willing to try and help a Water fairy learn in return for play time and fish. (According to Water fairies dolphins had a lot a crap to talk about humans, and so did the Orcas.)
Naming Traditions
Feminine names
Less argumenative then the other fairies, they aren't super strict with names genders. But if one wants a name to be read more feminine than masuline, they add more e's and a's to the spelling. Example: Crise, Ashlee, Maxine, Arte
Masculine names
Less argumenative then the other fairies, they aren't super strict with names genders. But if one wants a name to be read more masculine than feminine, they choose hard constant sounds (C, G) and less vowels, especially a and e. Sometimes subsistuting with u or o if they feel like being different and don't care about their kid being bullied. Examples. Gorth, Chud, Icurus
Unisex names
names that aren't being forced into a new spelling for reasons. Kat, Max, Chris, Art, Jean
Family names
Some Water fairy names are: The Wasser Family, The Acqua Family, The Vatn Family, and The Tubig Family
Other names
There are still the younger generation naming themselves after objects. One popular content creator on the Mayvian fourms is a Water fairy named SeaShell. Their parents aren't speaking to them any more. SeaShell doesn't care.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Unlike woodland fairies that care more about working the land Water fairies spend a lot of time in the water, and thus skin color doesn't matter that much in their beauty ideals but the colors you wear and have for your hair, eyes, and wings. Black, blue, blue is the perfect ideal (the younger generation likes to dye their hair blue and the older generation hates it). Slim and long forms are the ideal body type, muscles are nessiacary for good swimmers but bulky muscles weren't considered actractive. Having long hair was either a sign of age, sickness, or lazyness, as such most kept their hair shoulder length or shorter no matter the gender.
Gender Ideals
Women are expected to be nurturing to the young of both the sea and of Water fairies. They are expected to have endless paitience and instuctual teaching skills. They are expected to mature faster than their male counterparts and therefore get put to work and pulled out of school years earlier. Women water faries can technically do any job they want- but if they are doing the job traditionally thought of as a man's they fought hard for it and are hated for it. Male Water Fairies are expected to be strong and tough, to do all the manual labor, bring in the money, and put the food on the table. They often went into more dangerous or risky jobs and were forced to spend more time away from their children. The younger generation is moving out of old Water Fairy cities in droves, some leaving for the Main Land to go into mixed cities to escape these ideals and expectations.
