The races of Matera are plentiful and diverse, but can be separated in six different categories; The Prime Races, the Beastmen, the Enthos, the Cosmic Races, the Nenu-Lan Races, and the Other Races. The most common of the races spread throughout the world are the races known as the Prime Races. These races constantly shape and change the world around them. These races include all-encompassing Humans, industrious Dwarfs, elemental Eleys, long-lived Elves, capricious Gnomes, merry Halflings, multiracial Half-Elves, conflicted Half-Orcs, as well as the Human offshoot races native to the different realms; the Bekuma, the Briarheart, the Edaan, the Kahaligite, the Tamun, and the Vatamen. While also spread spread throughout the realms, the Beastmen are humanoids with an animal-like characteristic. Each race is descended from a demigod known as a Primal Beastmen, the first of their kind. Most still roam the world or rule over their kind to this day, but some have ascended to true godhood. The Beastman races include the dog-like Alka, the frogish Anuri, the goat-headed Astyr, the boarish Bura, the horse-bottomed Centaurs, the bat-winged Chirat, the crocodilian Dylia, the lizard-like Ishka, the elephantine Luxor, the beautiful Merfolk, the cat-like Neko, the ratted Nezumi, the serpentine Orochi, the squirrlish Ratosk, the rhino-like Rhoceni, the shark-toothed Selia, the avian Tengu, the turtle-shelled Tudin the simian Tyrhin, and the bear-like Ursan. Similar to beastmen, but often much smaller in stature, the Enthos are humanoids with insectile traits. Most enthos live underground in the Underrealm, and are rarely seen on the surface world. Enthos are capable of creating more of their kind from a special ritual spell known as enthos awakening, although in most enthos societies, enthos created from these rituals are considered to be lesser beings, often acting as a slave force. The enthosian races include the hardworking Antlings, the sturdy Beetlings, the moth-like Brightlings, the sociable Buzzlings, the dour Crawlings, the cooperative Hivelings, the enigmatic Jelloids, the fearsome Mantlings, the greedy Pinchlings, the mysterious Slimelings, the dispassionate Stinglings, and the artistic Weaverlings. When an outsider or other celestial or infernal being mixes with a mortal race, the offspring born from such a union often inherits strange powers and otherworldly features. While resembling their mortal parent, these offspring are actually a separate race. Known as Cosmic Races, societies react in a wide variety of different ways, from widespread reverence to outright fear. While rare, a cosmic lineage might take several generations to manifest, and two normal, mortal parents might be suddenly surprised when their child manifests cosmic power. The cosmic races include the celestial Aasimar, the stalwart Axions, the chaotic Casohs, the enigmatic Cosmons, and the infernal Tieflings. Hailing from a city built around a crashed starship, the Nenu-Lan races were once normal races who have altered their bodies with alien technology. The Nenu-Lan races include living holograms known as the Gears, mind-linked dwarves called Harvas, halflings with metallic limbs known as Molings, nanite-infused humans called Synthopans, elves with clockwork implants known as Tilves, gnomes with rubber skin called Wiregnomes, and toxin infused orcs known as Zercs. The Other Races of Matera are rare races scattered throughout the world that don’t fall into any one particular category. The Other Races include the timid Achapin, oozing Alba, the feral Bugbears, the hag-born Changelings, the skeletal Drentouk, the Dual-headed Dualox, the living gemstones known as Gemillions, arson-loving Goblins, titanic Half-Giants, tyrannical Hobgoblins, long-haired Llanaras, playful Lyr-Kels, half-bred Mongrels, brutal Orcs, tiny Randorans, and draconic Wyerms.
