Matera

Before time, there existed one god. This god, lonely in his isolation, decided to create something. He began to write in his own blood, and named himself the Author. From the drops of his blood, Yigg, the World Tree, began to sprout. The Author, noticing this new life, then wrote the 9 realms into existence to act as the catalyst for Yigg to grow. The most important realm, Matera, was created to be the very soil the World Tree would grow on. From Yigg, the other gods and divine beings sprang, and soon they worked to craft the 9 realms into images of grandeur. The first children of the gods, the Titans, eventually grew jealous, and attempted to overthrow them, convincing the first mortals to wage warfare and destruction across all the realms. The Author, seeing his creation being damaged, split the realms apart, so that they could no longer destroy each other or endanger Yigg. And so it lasted for centuries.   But then, the Sundering occurred, and the borders between the realms were broken. Now, each realm struggles to maintain a delicate balance in this new, whole again, world.
