Troglodyte (Trog-la-die-ta)

Ishka that dwell in The Underrealm instead of the jungles of Ixuil, troglodyte, also known just as trogs. Vicious, stupid, and stinky, the trogs, are mostly used as slave labor and bodyguards for the Drow and the Duergar. Like most Underrealm races, their eyes are damaged by sunlight, but they have a much better range of darkvision then their surface counterparts.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Some trogs have a rudimentary understanding of Undercommon, but many speak only a gutteral form of Ishkanan, and some struggle to vocalize anything at all.

Average technological level

Being simple brutes, many trogs struggle even with the concept of conventional weapons, preferring to instead maul their enemies with their claws and teeth.

Common Dress code

Most trogs are gifted one set of clothes from their master, and never another. Through the trogs violent life, this set of clothing often decays right into the trogs skin, becoming stuck to it with grim and blood.

Art & Architecture

Trogs seldom build anything, with free-range trogs often taking residence inside abandoned caves or wandering aimlessly through tunnels until they find their next meal.

Coming of Age Rites

In most freeborn families, siblings of a near age must fight each other for supremacy when they become adults, with the loser being consumed by the victor.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Trogs consume their dead, with no thought to the being it was in life. Trogs also char the meat they consume to the point of inedibility compared to most races.

Common Taboos

Trogs have little thought to taboos, and don't follow the traditional rules of ishkanan engagement, slaughtering children and adult alike. Many believe that the trogs where banished from Ixuil into The Underrealm due to their brutal practices.

Common Myths and Legends

It is believed that in the ancient days of Ixuil, one tribe of Ishka could not satiate their hunger and lust for war, causing much havoc and bloodshed. This tribe eventually turned away from worshiping the Ishkanan deity of Kachi, and towards the sinister Dark Tapestry deity known as Ogresh, the Faceless God, a dark void of unending hunger. For their crimes, the tribes of the Ishka banished the heretics into the depths of The Underrealm, where they devolved into the Troglodytes.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Trogs love intense smells, and find stenches that other races would view as revulsive as attractive. Thus, most trogs have a horrendous aura of stench about them, though few drow would tolerate such a smell in their slaves.

Gender Ideals

Troglodytes only care for the strong, and thus the gender matters little to individual trogs as long as their leader is the strongest.

Courtship Ideals

Like most things, trogs act through strength and dominance in their courtships, with the strongest trog in the tribe free to take mates as they choose.

Relationship Ideals

Races stuck in slavery sometimes bond with trogs, who are frequently mistreated by their overlords, and often can befriend the more simple-minded with acts of rare kindness, showing that their are other ways to life the mindless force. Still, such occurrences are rare, and most troglodytes are looked down upon as nothing but simple brutes by other races.

Major organizations

Many troglodytes are forced to work for Duergar or Drow overlords, but most are used for labor or to bully weaker slaves, which the trogs take to with eagerness.
