The Mind Mist

The borderlands between Usoram and Kirru, the Mind Mist is a valley perpetually covered in a mystical mist that drains the willpower of those who attempt to pass through it.

Geography

The Mind Mist is a long series of low valleys and thick cliffs, but most of it is hidden underneath the pale mist that blankets the entire area.

Localized Phenomena

The greatest phenomena, of which the Mind Mist is known for is the Pale Mist, the mist that covers the entire land. The Pale Mist drains mental energy of any non-Brightling creature who spends too much time in it. Afflicted creatures first begin to lose their sense of direction, followed by intense fatigue, hallucinations, paranoia and eventually falling into a coma-like slumber, leaving them helpless to the many of the areas lurking predators.

Climate

The Mind Mist is blanketed by hot and humid fog, with heat from Usoram mixing with cold winds from Kirru.

Fauna & Flora

While the study of the Mists creatures is difficult, the few recordings and accounts of the area is full of strange, insectile creatures, mostly as a result of the enthosian magics of the Brightlings. Other creatures seemed to have evolved to work in tandem with the mists psychic magics, developing ways to drain and attack the minds of wandering creatures.

Natural Resources

Many of the plants and berries that grow off of the plants in the region have hallucinogenic or even magic-enhancing properties, however retrieving such plants is a dangerous endeavor. The Mist itself can be harnessed to empower mind-magic,or compressed into orbs that can induce fear and temporary madness, but the process to make such orbs is known only to the brightlings, and they rarely share their secrets.

History

The Mind Mist was once a grand, sweeping canyon, said to have been carved out by now long-forgotten gods. During the Age of Strife, The Pale Wyrm came into conflict with Fien, the Enthosian Elder of the Brightlings. Their battle shook the realms, and somehow, the far less powerful demigod Fien managed to slay the dragon-god. After the battle, Fien fell into the valley, entering a deep slumber to recover from their wounds. The Brightlings, concerned about their god's vulnerability, used an ancient spell to blanket the valley in a pale mist. This spell was later intensified by the creation of The Rier, the divine wall that separated the realms, as it past right through the Mind Mist. With the destruction of the Rier and the unification of the realms, the magic that keeps the Mind Mist active seems to be slowly thinning, and many brightlings believe that Fien will soon awaken and ascend to true divinity.

Tourism

Very few people travel through the Mist, as its psychic attacks on the mind can be devastating. The Brightlings are extremly territorial, as they view the entire area as sacred ground. If one is to travel through, they require the hiring of a Brightling guide, who typically charges extraordinary fees for their services with no promise of safety.
