Konari Flame Torso

An invention of the Konari Flame Tribes, the Flame Torso is a specialized instrument only playable by the Eleyef.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

From the outside, the Flame Torso appears as a cumbersome glass shirt. Small holes channel the flow of air through the torso, causing reactions with the Eleyefs natural flames based on specific movements. These reactions warp the sound of the flowing air, causing haunting tunes to emerge from the Eleyef as it dances.

Manufacturing process

The flame tube is crafted by heating volcanic glass at high temperatures, then shaping the glass into a shirt-like shape. The glass is then molded onto the specific body of the Eleyef intending to use it, matching to their body shape. While each construction is done by the individual planning to wear it, it is always under the direction of a seasoned glassmith, as the process is incredibly difficult to get right, and requires multiple sets of hands.

History

The Eleyef have long been a passionate people, and their flaming bodies makes it difficult for them to wield any traditional instrument made out of jungle wood. Early Eleyef tribesman, with the help of Terunt glassblowers, sculpted the Flame Torsos to help invigorate their holy dances beyond what they could do with simple song.

Significance

The Flame Torsos are incredibly culturelly significent to the Eleyaw people, and it is a common early rite of passage for an adult Eley to craft a Flame Torso. Unless the Eleyef is a member a tribes Firedancers, these Flame Torsos are usually only used during personal dances for close family and friends. A tribes Firedances are greatly trained in the correct movements to create the perfect sounds and lead the tribes holy dances, with some Firedancers almost never removing their Flame Torsos.

Rarity

Due to its nature of being soley of use to individual Eleyef, the Flame Torso is an execeptionally rare instrumet outside of Konari. Inside of Konari, it is commonplace, as nearly every adult Eleyef accquires a flame torso in their adulthood to participate in Konaris ritualistic dances.
