Juko (Jew-co)

Neko that are native to the immense forests of Ardlam, the Juko resemble jaguars instead of traditional cats. Natural born climbers, the juko spend most their lives up in treetop villages.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The juko often prioritize learning to speak Terran, as it is a common language of Ardlam.

Average technological level

The juko utilize rope heavily in their construction and building efforts, but overall keep their advancements simple to help keep their villages concealed.

Common Dress code

The juko often wear clothes that are brown and green in coloration, to help them blend in with the canopies they traverse.

Art & Architecture

The juko are adept wood carvers, and have mastered the construction of settlements atop the canopies of Ardlams forests. Such villages are often difficult to spot from the ground, allowing the juko to remain hidden away from conflicts they would rather avoid.

Coming of Age Rites

Most juko spend their entire childhood up in the trees. When they come of age, they must prove their climbing skills by descending on their own, and must head on a hunting expedition on their own.

Common Myths and Legends

A majority of juko worship Bast, the nekoan goddess of Beauty and Protection, but can be found worshipping other members of the nekon pantheon.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

A jukos beauty is decided by the shape and the uniformity of their spots. Juko born with oddly shaped or mismatched spots are considered unlucky.

Gender Ideals

The juko have little gender ideals, with males and females being equal. Females are slightly more likely to become hunters than males, with males often pursuing their own interests.

Courtship Ideals

Juko often present potential mates with hunting kills as gifts, and often invite them to private canopies to enjoy each other's company.

Relationship Ideals

Many juko are solitary in nature, preferring to live alone or on the outskirts of a larger treetop settlement. Young juko usually leave as soon as they come of age, and their parents rarely stay together afterword.

Major organizations

Many juko join or work with the Earth Nomads in their travels throughout the realm. Many juko join freedom fighters or other anti-slaver groups, as they are in constant danger of being enslaved with the gnolls of the Sika Sultanate, who take special pleasure in tormenting the juko.
