Session 45: Robbery! Report

General Summary

Ciara/Ciaran and Faeryn (going by codenames "Half and Half" and "Menace (to Society)") are loading The Tammeraut in Monmurg (a major port on Isla de Amaya) when the imposing Prince-Captain Syrgaul strides on, calling all hands on deck and to sail swiftly. Apparently, Queen-Captain Xihuitl's royal saber, Blackrazor was stolen in the night, and a note was left by the theives that included an embellished "K". This can mean only one thing; Keoland. Syrgaul's fleet is sailing to the nearest major Keoish port at once, to demand the sword or sack the city (whichever the Keoish prefer Seaton.

Once on board, Elmo approaches the drow siblings and admits he thinks something is fishy and thinks war is a bad idea. A single "K" doesn't necessarily mean Keoland at all, and the Prince-Captain won't listen to reason! If a full assault on Seaton was the plan, why send only the forces of Monmurg? He thinks someone should go ahead and parely, so that cool heads may prevail. Would it be mutinous? Perhaps, but what else are pirates for!

It is decided, against Ciaran's wishes, that he will go warn the party as a messanger seagull.

Meanwhile high in the mountains between a pair of peaks rests a fortress made of clouds, the home of the Aryzmuit and lair of Tratainciym’aryzzyreph (Aryz of the Outcasts). The dragon summons Selina to his chambers, and she is surprised to see him in all his silver splendor (normally Aryz takes the form of a wizened old Kor). Aryz stands atop a mountain of gold and gems, stalking back and forth in frustraiton. The impersonal gaze of a dwarf's portrait overlooking the scene. He says:

"Something was stolen from me, a blade of little renown but known well by true connesuirs of history. One of our own, Aymeri, a human man you have known for many years, snuck in at night and fled via teleportation circle. To where he went I do not know, for he took care that winds would scatter the circle once he was done. The sword itself was known as Frostbite, a legendary weapon born out of a volcano over a millenia ago. You see, there was once a terrible witch doctor in the southeast who broke many taboos, dark deeds I shalt not speak of here. The wizard was known by many names, but given the K embossed on the note Aimery left behind I must assume he knows of the devil as Keraptis. It is said Keraptis coveted eternal life, and in his quests came upon a series of powerful weapons - whether he made or stole them is a matter of intense historical debate among my draconic brethern - but suffice to say, Frostbite was one of them. Keraptis procured it from within a terrible volcano crowned by a feather of white gasses, and as Keraptis passed from these lands so did his many instruments distribute themselves. Now Aimery has taken it upon himself to steal the blade from me - a blade I bought honorably - and in the old necromancer's name no less! I bid you, Seklyn, return to lands south of here and contact the men of the Order of Raan, see if they know anything of this Keraptis or Aimrey; the man once hailed from a neighboring nation to them. Bring me back the sword, and I shall reward you handsomely in a share of my treasure and honor among my host."

Bubbles, meanwhile, is chilling with the Javan School when who should approach but a party of Sea Elves led by Riptide. Riptide hails Hunter Bubbles, and requests they accompany them on a journey to the surface; the Sea Elf queen in Dar Elestri had, in her possession, a weapon sacred to their people; the trident known as Wave. Wave has been stolen, with not but a shell relating the letter K left behind. It is suspected that the men and dwarves of Keoland may be behind it, but given the Sea Elves' recent good relations with at least the peoples of Saltmarsh they seek negotiations before conflict.

After getting permission from Chieftess Ag'gona, Bubbles sets out with Riptide and heads to the house in Seaton, finding Virion, who just got a message from a very persistant Seagull. After some discussion, Bubbles convicnes Virion to write a decently concise message for the gull to take back to the Sea Princes.

The sea princes, Virion, and Bubbles go to Seaton.

While all of this is unfolding, Mystan is in a meeting in the west tower with Talon Serrano, Senior Talon Delmeriv, Castellon Shadowbreaker, and Duke Marik Feldren himself. They discuss the events of the conspiracy in Saltmarsh and the break in. It has successfully been determined that a second drow was involved in the break in, but all four prisoners are still at large. Additionally, who hired Ingo the Drover is unknown, and Diego is still in witness protection. The leaking of weapons out of the armory here in the castle is most distrubing, but all personell who could have had access to the armory at the time have been questioned under Zone of Truth and not one have confessed - then again, there have been troops who died before they could have been questioned. The Order is still reviewing those soldiers.

More frustrating, while Mystan absolutely should be congragulated for quelling the threat from the Hoolwood, the Dreadwood has only gotten worse. Every day they belch forth yet more monsters, and people are reporting yet more nightmares at the hand of Granny Nightshade. There have even been a few deaths reported from outlying towns, and the people are hungry thanks to the destruction wrought by the Cult of Zuggtmoy.

Marik Feldren is generally unhelpful with all this cloak and dagger BS, advising a full-frontal assault on the Dreadwood. Castellon Shadowbreaker dismisses this notion as foolhardy, and pointedly asks Talon Serrano for her report from the Styes.

Talon Serrano then says: "A councilor of the Styes, one Mr. Dory, was patron to the ruffians who knew the codeword the men of the Bilious Saber were to give. That thug didn't know the specifics, and after a quite ludicrously long chase from fence to fence and figure to figure, across the foul-smelling city, we came upon Mr. Dory at last. The man seemed afflicted with a strange skin condition, and his utterances made absolutely no sense. He said only that Ingo must die to preserve the "Brotherhood", and his other ravings were somewhat mad. We would have stayed in the town longer, to deal with a local serial killer - the so-called 'Lanter Ghost' - but the capture of Mr. Dory was urgent and necessary. Unfortunately, he seemed absolutely desparate for water. We had only water enough for drinking, and he seemed adamant he needed to bathe in the water. When we brought him a barrel of sea water to quell his desperation, he insisted it was too cold. His condition worsened, and despite my best efforts at healing magic, he died en route. I performed Speak with Dead on him, but his answers only beffudled me further. Scrawled on a scrap of parchment tucked in a book we found in his warehouse - which also held manticores and a slaad, mind you - was this symbol. The book itself was handwritten entirely in what appears to be Abyssal and Infernal. I have not yet translated the mad tome, as I know not what blasphemies lie within."

Everybody is gathered at the castle, they put together they were all taken in Keraptis' name and have tentatively assumed that the other weapons were from Keraptis, and that the volcano might be connected to the occult organizations swriling around kachina masks & whatnot.
