Taren

Of all the ‘beastfolk’, the taren are one of the two oldest in Illuria. In the distant past, the taren were tribes of nomadic hunters that inhabited the grasslands of the Garomen Plains.   Known for their deep affinity to nature, some of the greatest shamans were recorded to have come from these tribes. They are a people of intense contemplation, when combined with their immense size, make for a formidable presence.   The average taren stands seven feet tall, and can reach up to 300 pounds with the majority of that weight being muscle. Their fur ranges from mottled blond, to brown or black. All taren, both male and female, do have horns on their head.   During the Final War, the Garomen Plains were flooded. What was once a grassland, became a wide inland sea, now called the Garomen Sea. Tall prominent mesas that dotted the landscape of the plains, became islands when the floodwaters hit.   Now, eight hundred years after the Apocalypse, the surviving taren have rebuilt their lives in the typical determined taren fashion. Where before they were a nomadic grassland people, they became an island culture, merging many of their old ways and beliefs with this catastrophic shift to island life.
