The Shuimor Shipyard Caves

Shuimor is an unpopulated Sky Island with many large natural caves. It was secretly used by the Konag Empire as a Sky Ship production facility, which ended up building a hundred ships there.   At the time, the Konag Empire was still hiding its ambitions, constructing multiple warfleets in various hidden locations. They constructed building sites at empty islands, concealing them by either going underground or hiding them in hangars disguised as grassy hills.

The First Fleet

Shuimor's caves were hollowed out to make room for several building docks. All materials were harvested locally, including the Cloudstone. By the time the first set of fifty ships was completed, they were soaring against the ceilings of the caves. No longer able to get the ships out the entrances, the miners were forced to mine out the cave roofs.   It wasn't until the ships shot up fifteen metres, that they truly realised mistakes had been made. Quick improv helped the workers stop the ships from sailing away without them, eventually letting them deliver the fleet to the Empire.

The Second Fleet

The Empire sent their workers back to build more ships. Not realising the risks of overmining the island, the workers covered the holes with temporary roofs, strong enough to contain the new ships. A second set of fifty ships was produced. This time, all workers went on board of the ships before they were released.   The first ship shot up fifteen metres, and as more ships shot up, the workers saw the island sink further. When all was said and done, the ships all floated fourty metres above the suface of Shuimor. It was then that the workers started to realise just how badly they had overmined the island.

Legacy

Having finally realised in how much danger they had been, the workers gulped. Next they climbed down, closed the hatches, got back on board, and delivered the fleet. Afterwards they went to the bars and got wasted, celebrating their survival. Their drunken stories were overheard by visiting Skyfarers, who then snuck out of the Empire and warned other places of Konagian ambition.   Their warning had little effect in the end, as the Konag Empire still unified most islands under their rule for over six decades. Only when they tried to conquer the Disk, did the Empire's fall begin. But thanks to these reports, the story of Shuimor is known by some historians, even if the exact location of the island is unknown.   Since then, Shuimor's cave covers have mostly been overgrown, making it look like just another sunken island. The only way to enter it is pick up large amounts of ballast. Only a handful of Captains are prepared enough to use it as shelter. What cave covers remain operational, greatly help with hiding from searching eyes.
