The reveal of the existence of a supposedly legitimate heir to Knir Alganvi and the regent Alvassi's refusal to dethrone Knir Valdam in his favor plunged the empire into a second succession crisis which would lead to its final collapse.

In the same year as the crowning of Knir Valdam, Yizn Vorona, the wife of the late Knir Alganvi, revealed that she had born her husband a son and demanded that the regent Alvassi depose the illegitimate Knir and crown her son in his place. Different accounts dispute weather Alvassi expressed willingness to depose Valdam provided he remained regent, but the fact of the matter is that Alvassi eventually refused the request, prompting the second succession crisis. During the crisis, various regional warlords declared their secession from the empire and began to establish the first of the successor states. The flight of Alvassi and Valdam to the islands of Ultusk on the 13th of Sugelie year 16 L.E. is often cited by historians as the day the empire finally collapsed.
