Milo Moreau

"A boy of humble beginnings... a boy who amassed the sheer arcane talent to stop the Children of Rot in their tracks... a boy who breathed new unity into the continent..."

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Milo is a stocky, minimally athletic young man. He has chronic pain in his lower back that occasionally makes it quite difficult for him to walk, so he'll either use a wheelchair or a cane to support movement.

Identifying Characteristics

Milo has medium brown skin, longish curly dark brown hair, and stubble that subtly shifts between brown and red when exposed to direct sunlight.

Apparel & Accessories

Milo's day-to-day outfit is a loose cream linen shirt tucked into medium brown trousers, which are tucked into a pair of dark brown boots. He wears round spectacles of a shiny, polished silver.

Personal history

Milo Moreau was born in the Azurian village of Boisseaux on the penultimate day of the year 328 BM to mother Blanche and father Frederic Moreau. Despite Azurian culture in the pursuit of knowledge, Milo's family were the only practicing Watching Disciples in the village of Boisseaux, leading the Moreaus to be ostracized from the greater farming community. However, despite the best attempts of Blanche and Frederic before and after Milo's birth, they could never seem to amass enough monetary wealth to leave the village.   The Moreau home - a modest one-story with two bedrooms, functional plumbing, and a lovely garden - had been in the family since well before the Triumvirate Resolution was passed in the year 0 OM. Milo's parents have tried to sell it since they inherited it from Jean-Baptiste Moreau after his death two years before Milo's birth, but to no avail. If they were able to sell the house, then they could leave the village of Boisseaux and begin a new life on an isle of Lake Amaranthine - but nothing seemed to work out. Prospective buyers looking for lakefront property would flake, and no one in Boisseaux wanted to go anywhere near the Moreau property.   Milo's childhood was relatively normal. He attended the one-room schoolhouse all village children would find themselves in from the ages of five to twelve, before aging out of the publicly-subsidized education system put into place by the Sovereign Kingdom.   On his twelfth birthday, however, Milo displayed the first sign of magical prowess. As his birthday occurs deep into winter, he was told to gather kindling and firewood to light his home's wood stove, staving off the cold Azurian mists. However, upon putting the last log into the unlit furnace, his hand burst into flame. Of course, Milo was unharmed - but his parents were shocked, as this was the first time any recorded member of the Moreau family had shown any sort of arcane talent.   With what little money they had, Blanche and Frederic began to scour the meager pickings of the Boisseaux library, bookstore, and schoolhouse to find any resources on developing a child's innate ability to harness magick. In accordance with the rural nature of Boisseaux, there were none - however, Blanche had discovered an old, old text in the Moreau basement. None of the Moreaus spoke the language that it contained - the ancient indigenous Flavian language known as Auraën - and Milo determined that he would repress his inner magick until he became able to read the obviously magical grimoire.   Milo withdrew from the public eye for the next decade, rarely leaving his home to go into the meager town square of Boisseaux. The greater community had all but forgotten about him; other than his parents and sole aunt Bernadette, the only person who he ever spent any time with whatsoever was the odd bookkeeper who lived on the opposite edge of the village.   Several months into his twenty-second year, Milo had finally managed to fully translate the grimoire into his native Zuran. His story begins here, upon the completion of the translation.

Gender Identity

Milo is a cisgender male, fitting within the Azurian Gender Triumvirate. In his late teenage years, he spent time considering whether he'd feel more secure in his identity as a woman or as le troisième (the Azurian phrase for individuals who see themselves as neither man nor woman), but came out the other side with some security in his identity.

Sexuality

Milo is attracted to masculine-presenting individuals, regardless of their gender identity or genitalia. Whether the object of his affections is a butch woman or a large, hairy man, he doesn't care - he's attracted to the concept of Azurian 'masculinity'.

Intellectual Characteristics

Milo is an exceptionally curious individual who will fixate on interesting topics for months at a time. However, he hasn't had much of an opportunity to branch beyond the interest that has held him for the last decade - he spent that entire period working in tandem with Hubert Bouchard to garner texts that would allow him to learn Auraën and translate the mysterious grimoire in his basement.   He is a generally anxious individual, which can be chalked up to his minimal social interaction with people beyond his little bubble for the last decade. This anxiety is partially due to the fear of the innate magick spilling out of him and harming another person.   Milo can be somewhat judgmental towards others, especially when it comes to individuals who lack any sort of special skill. His urge to leave Boisseaux is fueled by this judgment, as he dislikes the provincial life that they lead.

Morality & Philosophy

Since Milo is relatively cowardly, he refuses to outright kill unless there's no way that the situation will end without him getting badly hurt.   Aside from things he truly wants, Milo will often skirt around topics and activities that he doesn't particularly wish to do. He does things that he's interested in - unless not doing something he dislikes will harm him in some way.

Social

Family Ties

Milo's only immediate family members are his mother and father (Blanche and Frederic Moreau) and his father's older sister Bernadette, a spinster who was left nothing from Milo's grandfather in his will. His parents tell him stories of cousins who skipped town throughout their lives to never return, but Milo has never met any of these individuals.

Religious Views

Milo is a worshipper of Astaphaios, the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, and magick. His parents (both Watching Disciples also) inducted him into the faith when he was three years old.

Wealth & Financial state

Milo is poor. Most of the Moreau money goes towards making sure that the house doesn't fall into disrepair, and what little money Milo personally has left over goes towards requesting acquisitions from Hubert Bouchard.
