Cult of Freyja

This cult, bearing the name of its Mother, was formed to fulfill Freyja's will and has the honor of being the oldest cult in Mannaheim. The cult can be seen everywhere and the leader of each sect must be a woman. The strictest rule within the cult is that its priests and priestesses must be virgins, as Freyja sacrificed her virginity to bring an end to the war between the Aesir and the Vanir when she married Óðinn. Cult members respect this legend the most, and they will sacrifice their own virginities as a ritual within the cult, if needed. This method is often used to stop wars or end famine. Members who sacrifice their virginities are allowed to leave the cult in peace and abundance while those who lose it for pleasure are banished from the cult.   There are sects dedicated to Freyja in every major human settlement in Mannaheim but the cult is not the most crowded. Each sect might have just one priestess and one priest. Priests and priestesses within the cult are called the "Gefjun" or "Givers" by the common folk.   The aims to help the folk of Mannaheim. This very basic intent, however, branches out into many other, secret, purposes. The cult works to maintain the peace, however tenuous it may be and are willing to sacrifice themselves to maintain it. The cult is the most inclusive in Mannaheim and is even willing to extend its good will to non-human races. They bless land for harvests and serve as midwives.   The cult gets along with almost every other cult and organization in Mannaheim, as it provides many of what could be considered its few "social services." In some regions, the cult enjoys the protection of a Jarl or powerful Thanes. Loki's worshippers try to undermine their efforts from the shadows and the Cult of Óðinn is sometimes critical of the Cult of Frejya and their god's popularity among elves.
