Verdial Miniaturized Mushroom Ration

In many ways the opposite of the verdial ad extremis ration, a verdial miniaturized mushroom ration (also known as a 2M-ration) is a portable, extremely dense form of ration designed for environments where water is plentiful.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

A 2M-ration is primarily composed of giant mushroom 'steaks' which have been thuroughly dehydrated and ground into flour. This flour is then cut with vitamins, minerals, salt, and a sugar-based binding agent for additional caloric content. The resulting mixture is then compressed into incredibly dense tablets and packaged in edible, water-soluble paper wrappers for ease of storage. A properly prepared 2M-ration, if kept thoroughly anhydrous, has no known expiration date.

Significance

While a 2M-ration tablet is inedible in its dry form, it can be tossed into a pot of boiling water to create a filling, nourishing soup. A single 2M-ration tablet, when cooked with at least 16 ounces of fresh or salt water, can sustain a single person for a day.   Most Vale Verdials regard the savory, umami flavor of 2M-ration soup with a sense of nostalgia, as it closely resembles a traditional Mushroom Harvest Festival staple. Soldiers carrying 2M-rations in the field will often put whatever seasonings, herbs, meats, or vegetables they have on hand into a vat of 2M-ration soup to create a flavorful potluck stew.   2M-rations are also popular items of trade between verdial soldiers and expeditions or explorers from other regions, as the flavor of the ration is regarded by most humanoids as far superior to other options in terms of taste - the infamous Rostran N-ration being the worst alternative by far. On the other hand, 2M-rations which have been prepared with too much water - often in the attempt to stretch food reserves - are loose and, therefore, not as filling as solid foodstuff rations.
