Ovoid Necrosis Condition in Manarchy | World Anvil

Ovoid Necrosis

Transmission & Vectors

Ovoid Necrosis happens through ingestion/contact. It doesn't become infectious unless fluids exchange came in contact with the stomach.

Causes

When consuming infected bog waters in particular marshes or infected waters, or most usual, when getting vomited fluids through your mouth by a Bogsmotherer.

Symptoms

The infection goes into three mains stages: Slime, Egg and Hatch.
  • First symptoms includes sweating, palpitations, and a feeling of a weight in the stomach area, as slime will produce on the stomach's parts. The first stage of the disease will coat the victim's stomach and will keep spreading through mitosis/replication.
  • Over an average of 4 hours for a human body, the slime will then gather through the acid part of the stomach as the shape of a slimy ovoid and swim in the liquid, unscathed by the chemicals. Victims will experience pain and the feeling of something inside when moving, as they will reach to get a immobile state whenever possible. Respiratory struggles may ensue. On the late stages, victim may develop cutaneous allergy to metal like copper silver and gold, which is a giver to reckognise the disease

Treatment

Most non-magical treatments are really dangerous to the victim. Early stage, the slime can be removed with consumption of strong solvent solution to remove, but most cheap solutions could be unsafe to consume for a specie with a stomach.   On the egg state, the only way to save the victim is by magical means, strong dissolving solution, or straight up incision of the stomach to retrieve the parasite's egg. passed the point of the egg reaching maturity, the host's life is often done for as the parasite feeds on it.

Prognosis

The parasitic egg reaching maturity will spread and start to suck blood for sustenance. the shock of the expansion and succion is enough to kill most "medium" sized host this instant. After a day or two feeding, the parasite gets control of the nervous system and uses his zombified host to collect more blood and nutriments to continue growing.   If the patient dies while the egg haven't hatched, the parasite will lack sustenance and wither to death.

Hosts & Carriers

Aside from humanoid hosts, the disease , at times, may carry on the bog's fauna when said fauna struggles to find clean sources of water. It is not impossible to find animals carrying the disease. If the meat is not fairly cooked, predators can also contract the disease of infected corpses.

Prevention

Marsh travelers favors face mask to avoid direct trade from bogsmother influxes, but it is only a temporary protection as most of these creatures will remove the mask if they are grappling succesfully their prey.   Another more costly way is to consume special oils which prevent the slime parasites to stick on the stomach. However, this doesn't protect from other diseases and sickness consuming bog water or infected mud may imply.

Epidemiology

The disease usually stays in the vicinity of bogs and swamps. However, it is possible for it to spread. If a bogsmotherer travels far and gets into a way to corrupt the water supplies (Well, Aqueducs...), it can create an epidemic faster if the settlements have inadequate health conditions. However, this is an extremely rare case, as bogsmotherers moves rarely out of their lair.
