Kraken Ink Rhum

"As black as a moonless night and as bitter as an old spinster elf lady. That, my friend, is what you look for. This rhum will be your funeral, matey!"

-Otis Marbeed, barman at the Bleeding Eel in Verivalas.

Manufacturing process

The unique aspect of the ink kraken rhum comes from the fermentation process. All the original process of rum is kept, like using molasse from sugar cane, yeast and spring water. But by adding a 10/90 ink/molasse ratio, the ink provoques a reaction during fermentation, which produce a rare kind of ethyl, which has a smell of kelp. When distillation comes, this ethyl created by the ink makes the molasses produce a more potent alcohol ratio, as also a new intoxicant.

Ageing takes 24 months, which helps give a more dark rhum, which is aged in darkwood casks and also filled with some blackberries coated in caramel. At the end of the process (bottling), the rhum contains 82% alcohol.

Significance

Kraken Ink Rhum is a way for spirit makers to emulate the dangers of the sea in a bottle. With the potency of rhum and the hallucinogenic effect of the fermented ink, it makes for a very bitter gut punch which is seek for his capacity to help forgeting, or mostly for the most adventurous to test themselves.

In some other very rare cases, cultist of Old Gods and pelagic powers may seek interest since the process keeps a specific component of the ink intact for rituals, and makes them the most frequent buyers in the black market in certain countries which access to pure kraken ink is close to impossible. But due to the price, it is often bought in small quantities for more minor ritual magic.
