Carcolians

Basic Information

Anatomy

Shares a similar body structures as similar gastropods: having a long muscular boneless shape like slugs as such as pairs of antennas which number varies from variants in the world, but usually are two pairs. on their front. First generation were born without any extra limbs, but a noticeable amount of carcolians came to develop a pair of arm-like limbs without fingers, but flexible enough to stick object around them like staves.

Genetics and Reproduction

Carcolians are all hermaphrodites with the exception on one variant (). They are able to make asexual reproduction, but mating between two carcolians is possible. The ratio of asexual/sexual reproduction varies based on general sub-species behaviour but also ethnicity and culture.

Growth Rate & Stages

The newborn snails does not have their shell developped yet which makes them rather vulnerable, and most cultures then to protect their young ones until they reach a certain maturity. Over time, their shell will manifest and get bigger during their growth. As time and their shell growth passes, so is their shell's reaction to touch becomes less sensitive.

Ecology and Habitats

Snails favors humid environments, preferably tropical settings. sea snails usually stays close to water level as deeper levels are too cold for them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Carcolians are omnivores by nature, but region and culture can make their diet and habits change, from a full vegan to a carnist diet. Leaves, sediments, limestone residues, and protein-based corpses are all varied options for them to consume.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Carcolians sometimes uses their own mucus as component in their concoctions of for different purposes. they can vary from subrace to subrace, acting either as strong olfactive repellent, acid, toxin.... Byproducts can also vary greatly with those. They are open to barter their sludge to buyers. Some toxins giving a rather good price in the black market, but buyers must be ready to barter with things other than mere gold. Consuming Carcelian flesh or eggs can also be used as rations as their body decays quite slowly without enzymes to digest it faster. While not tasteful, those that consumes said muscles can have a fill for a good time.

Average Intelligence

While their learning process is rather slow compared to other races, slugs have the advantage of a large lifespan. Their capacity to learn is also impeded by their lack of sight for litterature and deafness for oral learning. They have however an extreme capacity to detect things by scent to a point the could pinpoint the time a corpse started decaying or pinpoint infections stages. This makes them rather good alchemist and on other fields like mycology and natural medicine and survivalism. The average access to outside knowledge, complicated by access to other races and means of communication complicated them in certain regions to reach the most recent advancement in arcane and technologies. They thus values the passage of strangers as a great potential of learning which can communicate with them with braille or similar languages to cover their handicaps. As some older writing were made through carving, they also can manage to have learned and remembered ancient dialects.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Most snails have extremely limited sight, or simply no vision whatsoever in some cave-based subspecies. they can feel vibrations with their sense of touch, and can smell/taste with their lower tentacles. They are also deafs. Communication is thus complicated with this race except for telepathy, primary olfactive language or sign language (either with their antennas or arm-like tentacles.)

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Some cave subraces can have a unique tint as their body and shell can become transparent due to their ecosystem adaptation. Shell colors in sea and land carcolians varies mostly with their flora and environment, with the exception of some having more vivid and unique colors like the (), which arbor a purple color, synonym of toxicity in the wild.
