The Tannibrine [tænniːbraɪn] people, formerly of the
Kingdom of Tannibri. Their kingdom was founded in the middle of the Steel Revolution Era (third age). The Kingdom itself was founded by the Ola'gara family, which led the battle against the dreaded Frost Tyrant
Cryonus, an ancient white dragon that ruled the northern reaches of
Malyk in the continent of
Nor. The Ola'gara family took pride in their ways of war, and granted position within their kingdom based on strength, which solidified the Tannibrine's warrior culture. Near the end of the Steel Revolution Era, Tannibri was conquered by the
Empire of Ulstrom. Some of the Tannibrine warriors stood against their new oppression and died, while others scattered. Some remained complacent and remained in the new Empire, while others fled south to
Edox and the
Council of Midara.
Tannibrine Culture in Ulstrom
The northern Tannibrine are often shunned by their southern and eastern counterparts, as many see them as the lapdogs of the empire that conquered them. The primary language of the
Empire of Ulstrom is
Ardenian, but most of the Tannibrine continued to keep
Tannise as their primary language, further alienating themselves from the
Ardenians. Many of the Tannibrine that hold well-paid jobs are mercenaries, from the
Ebony Legion, which serves the Empire, to the
Order of the Silverblade, which seeks the dethronement and regicide of
House Starblight.
Tannibrine Culture in Midara
The Tannibrine in
Council of Midara are known to be migratory, as they travel in the wilderness between the twelve cities of the Empire. Many of them are members of the
Midaran Hunter Association, which seeks to thin out the population of dangerous monsters that live between the cities. The southern Tannibrine hold the most contempt towards their northern brethren, despite continuing to respect their monarchy, the Ola'gara family, and continue to use their flag as a symbol of their Midaran tribes.
Tannibrine Culture in Edox
The eastern Tannibrine, in
Edox, live in more ruthless circumstances than their northern and southern brethren. After arriving to the continent in the early years of the Imperial Age (fourth age), the nations of Edox declared them to be deported, as they did not seek to allow and influx of impoverished immigrants to fill their nation. The ones who were deported either returned to
Ulstrom or went west to join their southern brethren in
Midara. The ones who stayed were outlawed, which led to many of them joining bandit out camps or traveling to
Slitherport, often becoming involved in piracy. Now, in modern times, these reputations continue to thrive. Even though many eastern Tannibrine are law-abiding citizens, their reputation often results in discrimination.
